However, an estimated 9 million homes and businesses across the U.S. still get their water from lead pipes. That’s why, alongside the Environmental Defense Fund and the Environmental Policy Innovation Center, we’re calling on mayors and city leaders to lead the charge to #GetTheLeadOut, starting with lead pipes. Success Story: Wausau’s Journey to Safer Water with CIP’s EquiFlow Lead-Free Program At CIP, we believe in transforming infrastructure challenges into opportunities for healthier, more resilient communities. The City Of Wausau, Wisconsin, faced a daunting task: replacing nearly 8,000 lead service lines to protect public health. Today, we’re proud to share their remarkable progress through our EquiFlow Lead-Free Program! Key Highlights from Year 1: ✅605 Lead Service Lines Replaced: That’s 11x the City’s previous annual high of 55! ✅$600K in Savings: Our performance-based approach reduced costs while exceeding expectations. ✅96.2% Consent Rate: Thanks to culturally tailored outreach and trust-building strategies. ✅Expanded Contractor Capacity: 30+ firms engaged, increasing competition and local workforce opportunities. 🎉Year Two of our EquiFlow Lead-Free Program in Wausau, WI, has been approved! 🎉 President Lisa Rasmussen noted that crews replaced more lines in year one of the plan than they originally aimed for, and all of the residents she spoke to who took advantage of the service were happy with the results. “I think [Community Infrastructure Partners] proved they can deliver on promises so I am excited to support this,” said Rasmussen. “All of the comments [from those that had the work done] were positive. People felt good about the work that got done and the private side was funded by the program.
