"We always have been focused on being a transforming, healing presence in the community, and that goes beyond the hospital walls. One of the things that we've done in 2024 is create a partnership with the Community Shelter Board to really help our patients that are unhoused receive housing and shelter, because that's a huge issue if you get out of the hospital and you don't have a place to go. Or you don't have a place to go, that may be why you come in the hospital. We're just really proud of that work and expansion of the community health and well-being work that we've been doing since our inception." We are very proud of our partnership with Mount Carmel Health System! #Endhomelessness

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development released its 2024 Point-in-Time Homeless Report, showing that Ohio’s homeless population has risen by 3.3% in the last year. “We need more affordable housing, that is the number one thing that we need,” said Twila Wellmaker with the Community Shelter Board. The report says 11,759 people are homeless in Ohio, about 400 more than there were in 2023. Among Ohio’s biggest cities, Cincinnati saw the largest year-over-year jump of nearly 7%. While Cleveland’s numbers stayed level. As a whole, Ohio’s 3% increase was far below the national jump of 18%.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's latest report illustrates something people across the country already know: More people than ever need help paying rent. More people than ever can’t afford their basic needs. More people than ever are becoming homeless for the first time. And homelessness is up because our federal, state, and local leaders haven’t addressed that. https://lnkd.in/eHViGfBb

Homelessness soared to the highest level on record this year, driven by forces that included a surge in migrants seeking asylum, a national housing crisis and the end of pandemic-era measures to protect the needy, the federal government reported on Friday. The number of people experiencing homelessness topped 770,000, an increase of more than 18 percent over last year and the largest annual increase since the count began in 2007. Nearly every category of unhoused people grew, with the rise especially steep among children and people in families. The report, released by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, showed that homelessness had risen by a third in the past two years, after years of only modest fluctuations. The agency blamed factors such as “our worsening national affordable-housing crisis,” inflation and the end of certain aid programs from the pandemic. But federal officials on a call with reporters placed special emphasis on the rise in asylum-seeking migrants who overwhelmed the shelter systems where much of the increase occurred. Please Read ** Heart-wrenching story that has become all too familiar : She was evicted in February and died in May, while homeless, just days short of her 71st birthday. Erickson’s tragic end — homeless despite a lifetime spent caring for others — The continued fight for "Housing Stability" is a must... meaning that having a secure and reliable place to live is essential for the overall well-being, as it provides a foundation for other aspects of life like employment, education, and mental health, and its absence can significantly hinder progress in various areas; essentially, stable housing is considered a fundamental need for individuals and families.

Breaking down misconceptions: Being homeless doesn't automatically categorize someone as harmful or a criminal. Instead of stereotyping, let's remember: the bulk of their effort is directed towards finding shelter and staying alive, battling daily adversities, all the while showing remarkable resilience, resourcefulness, and a powerful drive to regain stability. Empathy and compassion can help us understand the issues at the heart of homelessness and inspire effective, supportive solutions. 🙌 #EndTheStigma #SupportSystem #HomelessnessAwareness
