BRINGING CLARITY TO THE COMPLEX
About us
One of the world’s leading economic consulting firms, Compass Lexecon provides law firms, corporations and government clients with clear analysis of complex issues. We have been involved in a broad spectrum of matters related to economics and finance – providing critical insight in legal and regulatory proceedings, strategic decisions and public policy debates. Our experience and expertise apply to virtually any question of economics, in virtually any context of the law or business. At Compass Lexecon, we believe that critical economic issues – whether in connection with litigation, regulatory review, strategic planning or other corporate activities – are best understood when subjected to a rigorous empirical analysis. Our firm is known for developing a thorough understanding of the issues that face our clients, relating those issues to relevant economic theory, and then supporting our analysis with solid and persuasive empirical evidence. One of our most valuable assets is our ability to present complex concepts and data in an understandable manner. Our successes in the courtroom and before regulatory agencies over the years have validated our approach. Compass Lexecon was formed in January 2008 through the combination of Competition Policy Associates (COMPASS) and Lexecon. For the past 15 years, Compass Lexecon has been ranked as one of the leading antitrust economics firms in the world by the Global Competition Review.

Small cartel overcharges can be dismissed by courts and deemed inherently implausible, but does this match up with the available theory and evidence? In the latest edition of The Analysis, Jorge Padilla, Enrique Andreu, Salvatore Piccolo and Ben Dubowitz assess what determines cartel overcharges, and show that data and economic theory support cartel overcharges being small under certain conditions. Five years and counting! 🎉 Compass Lexecon Chile celebrated its 5th Anniversary of the office opening last week with a conference on “The Future of Antitrust in the Digital Economy Era”. Office head Fernando José Coloma Ríos welcomed Kirsten Edwards-Warren and Jorge Padilla from our EMEA team, and former Chilean national economic prosecutor and head of CentroCompetencia UAI, Felipe Irarrázabal Ph., to mark the occasion with insightful discussions on antitrust issues in digital markets. Kirsten shared experience from the recent wave of antitrust investigations by European regulators against Big Tech firms and how they have influenced the new Digital Markets Act, and what the regulation could mean for competition and innovation in the future. Jorge and Felipe delved into the issues for practitioners during a Q&A, including the importance of data as an essential input; the increased emphasis on competition concerns from “killer acquisition” and “reverse killer acquisition” theories of harm; the development of digital ecosystems by Big Tech firms as both a competitive moat and key driver of efficiencies; and the renewed emphasis on exclusionary and exploitative theories of harm in digital markets cases. Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate! Read the event synopsis here: https://lnkd.in/e38N8dpw #antitrust #digitaleconomy #bigtech #DMA #economics
