About us

Welcome! Since 2015, Compassionate Atlanta (CA) has been building a movement around the idea of compassionate action. CA’s work is done in community. We are founded on the International Charter for Compassion, with the call to action to honor our common humanity. CA is a grassroots movement that engages local individuals, schools, businesses, organizations, congregations and cities around the idea of compassionate action. Our work focuses on providing training, facilitating conversations, providing resources and bringing greater compassion and kindness into our world, in turn creating healthier, safer and more vibrant communities. In today’s world, now more than ever, we need compassionate action. This stretches from self-compassion to our families and neighbors all the way to our global place in the world. Compassionate Atlanta is a grassroots community-building movement that seeks to raise awareness about the benefits of compassionate action throughout Greater Atlanta and beyond. The Compassionate Atlanta Planning Team, which was formed in 2013, was instrumental in getting the City of Atlanta designated as a “Compassionate City.” That important step was taken on February 3rd, 2014 by the City Council of Atlanta and approved by Mayor Kasim Reed on February 12th, 2014. In so doing, Atlanta became the second largest metropolitan area in the United States to become a Compassionate City.

Compassionate Atlanta was founded on the principles of The Global Charter for Compassion which states that Compassion impels us “To dethrone ourselves from the center of our world and put another there, and to honor the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity, and respect.” Your donation promotes these values. Thank you for giving today. tinyurl.com/GTCA2024 #givingtuesday #compassionateatl

  • What is compassion? 1. The awareness of the suffering of another. 2. The desire to do so something to alleviate that suffering. 3. Taking wise compassionate action to alleviate that suffering.  Give today to CA to continue the work of creating communities which center compassion as the main ethic. Together, let’s create a ripple of positive change! Mark your calendars and get ready to give back. Double your dollars. The goal is to raise $3,000 to match the $3,000 given to us by generous donors.  Gifts of $50 and over will receive a bag of love notes and $100 or over will get a CA t-shirt and love notes. #GivingTuesday #CompassionateATL #SpreadKindness #MakeADifference

  • From now to the end of the year, our social media posts are going to be educational and empowering on compassion. Be sure to follow us and share our posts. Let us make compassion our way of life. Compassion is the Antidote to what appears to be the reality “out there.” Please support the emerging global movement that enlivens compassion in our personal lives, in our families, and in our communities. Giving Tuesday is when we make a big ask as we push towards our end of year financial goals. Yes, it takes resources to seed, plant, grow, and spread compassion. Our goal for Giving Tuesday is $6,000. We already have a $3,000 match from generous donors. Help us exceed our goal. Thank you for being a partner with us in Compassion and donating to CA today.
