  • One of my clients confessed to me years ago that she was a surface hoarder. Whether it was a table top, the counter, a toilet lid, the top of the refrigerator, stove top, or the floor….almost every surface inside her home was covered in “stuff”. The thought of having guests over to her home was a terrifying experience for her because her home was always so messy. Before guests arrived, there was always a last minute dash to stack items behind the couch, in closets or drawers. She felt like she couldn't let anyone see her home in such a state. She was embarrassed and ashamed of her cluttered home and worried about what others would think of it. She was determined to create a more inviting and comfortable space for herself and her guests. A “Surface hoarder” or a person who just has too much “stuff” tends to accumulate and clutter surfaces in their living space with various items, which makes it difficult to find or utilize a surface for its intended purpose. It can lead to disorganization, stress and confusion, instead of order, clarity and calmness. It’s not uncommon for empty surfaces to act like magnets, attracting all kinds of things. It's something we all do, however these bad habits can make your home look cluttered and untidy. It can also make it difficult to find what you’re looking for. COMMON CLUTTER HOT SPOTS: - Stacks of clean clothes waiting to be folded - Dirty dishes stacked near the sink, waiting to go into the dishwasher - Mail piled up on the kitchen counter that needs to be sorted - Shoes in the family room waiting to be put in their cubby - Groceries on the kitchen table that should be in the pantry - Dirty clothes on the bedroom floor, waiting to go to the laundry room The clutter issue ultimately arises from having too much stuff! Are you surrounded by too much stuff? Why? Ask yourself, do you really need and use it? Families and individuals hire Complete Relocation Solutions to break the clutter habit and to develop a system of organizing and storing items. It is our mission to #declutter, make room, and donate or sell unused items to create a home that is organized and free of clutter. As a result, our clients have thanked us for restoring calmness to their lives so they can enjoy their homes more and focus on the most important things in life. #lessismore #cleartheclutter #Indiana #CarmelIndiana #homeorganization #homeorganizer #peacefulhome #NoblesvilleIndiana #fishersindiana #IndianapolisIndiana

  • 4 Storage Hacks to Keep Your Vacation Home Organized With the summer vacation season just around the corner, many of us are planning that big, much needed summer getaway. Keeping your vacation home tidy and organized can be a challenge, but don't worry, we've got you covered! In this post, we'll share a few easy storage hacks that will help you maintain an organized and clutter-free vacation home. 1. Maximize storage space One of the key secrets to a well-organized vacation home is maximizing storage space. Consider utilizing under-bed storage containers to store extra bedding, towels, or even outdoor gear. Also use hanging shoe organizers on the back of doors to make the most of every nook and cranny. These simple additions can make a world of difference in keeping your space tidy. 2. Consider multi-functional furniture Investing in multi-functional furniture is a game-changer. Opt for ottomans or coffee tables with hidden storage compartments. These pieces not only serve their primary purpose but also provide extra space to stow away blankets, pillows, or other items when they're not in use. 3. Implement a labeling system Labeling is your best friend when it comes to staying organized. Use clear bins or baskets to store items like beach essentials, kitchenware, or electronics. Label each container accordingly to  make it easier to find what you need quickly. 4. Create designated zones Our final tip is to create designated zones within your vacation home. Assign areas for specific activities or purposes. For example, set up a reading nook with a cozy chair and a bookshelf, or create a dedicated space for board games and entertainment. By defining these zones, you'll be able to maintain order and keep clutter at bay. So, whether you're a frequent visitor or rent out your vacation home, implementing these storage hacks will transform your space into an organized oasis. Say goodbye to the clutter and hello to a well-organized and peaceful getaway. #organizationtips #vacationhome #storagehacks #getawayretreat

  • True Stories - Decluttering those Knick knacks I recently had the opportunity to work with a former dietitian director at one of the top children's hospitals in the region. Her department held a number of corporate, charitable and educational events where they often gave away promotional items as gifts. Over the years she had accumulated a large collection of hospital-branded China dishes, coffee mugs and knick knacks. During our #decluttering process, she had no idea what to do with all these items and certainly didn't want them to end up in a landfill. I suggested we donate them to a local hospital as they sometimes need items to brighten up their walls and waiting areas. I also called the hospital gift shop to see if they would accept these mugs and dishes as a donation or re-sell them in the gift shop. My client loved the idea and was happy to donate them! Following the sizable donation, I received a call from the retired CEO of the hospital. He was curious to know the history behind the unusual donation, and of course I happily shared. Upon learning the story behind the donation, he discovered that my client contributed significantly to the hospital's past. Coincidentally, the hospital’s 100-year anniversary was approaching and he was compiling its history for the celebration. I shared her phone number and he eagerly reached out to my client and engaged in a conversation to hear her personal account of how the mugs and China dishes came to be. She was thrilled to be a part of this milestone by sharing her knowledge. Her collection of hospital-branded memorabilia represented a tangible part of the hospital's history. It's amazing how this small gesture of a simple donation of seemingly useless knick knacks could have such a big impact. It’s the small things we do that are monumental and I'm so glad we were able to help! #Declutter #downsizing #BabyBoomers #over65 #SeniorLiving #indianarealtor #indianapolisrealtor #carmelindianarealtor #movemanager  #Indiana #CarmelIndiana #NoblesvilleIndiana #fishersindiana #IndianapolisIndiana

  • Preserving your Legacy - sorting, organizing, documenting your family photos Have you ever come across a shoebox or dusty album filled with old family photographs? Each photo holds a piece of history, a cherished memory, and a connection to our past. But how often do we take the time to truly preserve and organize these precious moments? Sorting and organizing print photos is an overwhelming task. It took me 8 months to organize my own collection! In most cases, dates or years are hard to remember, but special events are never forgotten. So I like to organize photos by themes or events. For example, by organizing photos of a child's birthday parties under the theme of "growing up," you can create a visual narrative that showcases the child's journey from infancy to adolescence, to adulthood. We specialize in sorting, organizing, documenting and digitizing your family photos with meticulous care and attention to detail. We can also help digitize your slides, VHS tapes, and 8 mm film. Did you know that VHS tapes (those beloved relics of the past) can disintegrate over time? And if you've ever worked with 8 mm film, you might be familiar with the frustrating issue of the film tapes curling when stored flat instead of vertically. At Complete Relocation Solutions we believe that organizing your photos is more than just a task; it's a labor of love. We understand the importance of preserving your legacy and ensuring that these memories are not lost or forgotten. • No matter how much space you have, there's a way to store your jewelry, so you can find your favorite pieces at a glance. Being a highly visual person, I am likely to see and wear my items if they are displayed. It’s one of those times where “out of sight, out of mind”. Keeping them visible also allows me to appreciate my collection. Earrings: Depending on how many you have, it may be best to store your favorites on earring stands or trees. They can store all sorts of jewelry including earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings and many stores sell these stands, such as Claires, Hobby Lobby, etc. If the earrings are not too heavy, either hook or clip style earrings can be placed on the earring tree stand. To make things look pretty, another option is to arrange your collection in clear plastic containers, with various-sized compartments. The same colors can be grouped together in one slot, such as red, pink, gold, or silver. You can purchase these containers at a craft store. I usually look in the bead section. Necklaces: My closet wall is adorned with necklaces, it’s a great way to display your necklaces in an organized and visually appealing way. Each necklace can be hung separately and evenly spaced to prevent tangling. If your closet doesn't have any spare wall space, you might consider a jewelry cabinet where you can hang necklaces and display bracelets and watches inside the drawers. Rings: Traditional jewelry boxes can be a great way to organize and display rings because many have felt holders specifically designed to hold rings. If that’s not your style, try modern ring cones that can store several rings in a compact space. Whether it's a treasured heirloom or just your favorite everyday pieces,  it's fun to think outside the box and figure out ways in which you can store your jewelry so you can easily see everything and rotate through all of your beautiful pieces. #jewelryorganization #declutterandstyle #OrganizedLiving #getorganized Image credit: Arden Jewelers

  • Clutter is a popular word, and it is often said that physical clutter equates to mental clutter. Clutter comes in many forms: physical or visible, mental, emotional, and digital, to name a few. It is whatever keeps you from living the life you want to live and from accomplishing what you want to accomplish. Even though it may be difficult to let go and #declutter, it can be beneficial to do so. Getting rid of the clutter at home or at the office can sometimes be challenging. However, one of the most important things people forget to associate it with is happiness. It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed, so it’s also fine to ask for help. Contact us at 317-514-9793 to learn how we can offer our expertise. #tidyhouse #HomeOrganization #OrganizedLiving #cleartheclutter #getorganized #NoblesvilleIndiana #fishersindiana #CarmelIndiana #IndianapolisIndiana #declutteryourhome Image credit: barb-fletcher.com
