Home composting differs from industrial composting in that it operates at lower and less constant temperatures. Industrial composting facilities maintain constant temperatures of 58°C for about six months, while home composting typically runs at lower temperatures, between 20°C and 30°C, over the course of a year. This process requires patience and an understanding of the natural decomposition cycle. Did you know? 🌱 New York City is jumping on the composting bandwagon!    Starting this October, all five boroughs in the Big Apple can now get in on curbside #composting—a game-changer for #recycling yard and food #waste. ♻️ Residents across the city can now toss their leaves, food scraps, and even greasy pizza boxes right at the curb. In today's eco-conscious 🌍 society, #compostable materials help reduce ecological footprint. However, confirming #compostability requires thorough laboratory testing 🔍.    A material is compostable if it decomposes into carbon dioxide, water and biomass without toxic residues. This includes testing for decomposition, disintegration and compost quality 🌿.    🌱 First, the organic content and pollutants of the material are evaluated. High organic content and low toxins are essential.    🌱 Next, biodegradation is measured by CO2 emission under controlled conditions. Disintegration tests ensure that the material breaks down into particles smaller than 2 mm.    🌱 Finally, compost quality is tested for safety, including pH, salinity, nutrient content and toxicity.     Laboratories performing compostability testing strictly follow international standards that define the methods and criteria for assessing the compostability of a material.
