Simulate real-world designs, devices, and processes with the COMSOL Multiphysics® software.
About us
COMSOL develops mathematical modeling software for driving new breakthroughs in physics and engineering. The COMSOL Multiphysics® simulation software is used to model designs, devices, and processes in all fields of engineering, manufacturing, and scientific research. It includes the Model Builder, with fully coupled multiphysics and single-physics modeling capabilities, and the Application Builder, for turning models into easy-to-use simulation apps. Add-on products with specialized functionality are available for electromagnetics, structural mechanics, acoustics, fluid flow, heat transfer, chemical engineering, and CAD interfacing. Apps can be distributed to design teams, manufacturing departments, test labs, customers, and more via COMSOL Compiler™, used to compile apps into standalone executable files, and COMSOL Server™, used to manage and distribute apps organizationwide. COMSOL was founded in 1986 in Stockholm, Sweden, and now includes 16 offices and a distributor network throughout the world.

Active aerodynamic systems make it possible to dynamically move certain components of a vehicle, providing significant benefits to high-speed cars. These systems, known for their use in racing series, have gained popularity in road-legal vehicles as well. In this blog post, we examine the effects active aerodynamic systems have on a vehicle’s drag and downforce using a simple model created with COMSOL Multiphysics. 🏎️ Start your engines and race over to this blog post:

Powered by electricity, light rail transit (LRT) systems are an efficient and sustainable method of transportation. However, the possibility of stray currents from the rails corroding underground metallic structures is cause for concern. In this blog post, we explore how modeling and simulation can be used to explore the effects of stray currents from a train in an LRT system on a nearby steel pipe, leading to improvements in design and corrosion mitigation. Happy birthday, Olive Dennis! 🚆 Dennis was instrumental in designing features that eventually became standard on passenger trains, such as: reclining seats, stain-resistant upholstery, and ceiling lights that could be dimmed. She also designed an entire train that ran between Detroit and Cincinnati! Read about her life and legacy here:
