The stockings were hung by the tripod with care... in hopes that St. Rick (Richard Smith)... ahem... St. Nick... soon would be there. 🎄 As we approach the final days of 2024, we're grateful for the many measured successes and thoughtful collaborations the year has brought. Thank you for being part of our journey and here's to new horizons in 2025. Happy Holidays!

Surveying a dynamic world through geospatial research, innovation, and education.
About us
The Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science (CBI) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has played a vital role in the Coastal Bend since 1987. As an inclusive geospatial science research environment, CBI utilizes advanced technologies to map, measure, collect and manage data to predict the physical environment and support decision making. Working with governmental entities, industry leaders, and stakeholders, the institute provides data and develops innovative solutions informed by precise measurements that honor the Blucher family’s legacy and commitment to surveying and science.

Isabel Garcia's research, Accessing Vulnerability of a Sea Turtle Nesting Habitat Using a Mapping-Grade Mobile Lidar System on Padre Island National Seashore, Texas, was shared as part of the poster sessions held at the AGU2024 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. Isabel is a Coastal and Marine Systems Science Ph.D. student and Graduate Research Assistant with CBI’s Measurement Analytics (MANTIS) Lab. Congratulations, Isabel!

Mohammad Sohail, a Computer Science Ph.D. student and Graduate Research Assistant in CBI's Measurement Analytics (MANTIS) Lab, presented his research at the AGU2024 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. His presentation focused on the 2022 megaflood and land surface deformation in southern Pakistan, a region highly susceptible to severe flooding during summer monsoons. Using satellite imagery from Sentinel-1A and 2A, combined with ground-based validation surveys, Mohammad analyzed floodwater depth and land displacement across the hardest-hit areas of the Indus floodplain. Excessive rainfall and floodwater debris were found to be the main drivers of land deformation due to the immense pressure exerted on the land. This research underscores the vital role of remote sensing in monitoring flood impacts and land deformation, providing valuable insights for disaster management and climate resilience efforts.

Watch out, Rudolph—there’s a new holiday helper in town! ROSE the LiDAR puppy spread some high-tech holiday cheer last week delivering elves to each classroom at the the Early Childhood Development Center. Jointly operated by TAMU-CC and Corpus Christi ISD, the preschool works in partnership with TAMU-CC's College of Education and Human Development serving students ages 3-4.

Congratulations to our CBIslanders who were among the 1,000+ graduates to walk the stage at this past weekend's Islander Commencement!
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi awarded over 1,000 degrees during its Fall 2024 Commencement Ceremony! 🎉 Whether this day was the culmination of a journey started years earlier, another stop on a lifetime of learning, or a combination of both, today was a significant milestone for every graduate who walked that stage. Congratulations to all our Islander graduates! 🤙🏽 #TAMUCC #IslanderForever

Working in collaboration with teams from NOAA Fisheries, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and Mid-Coast Sea Turtle Rescue, CBI recently deployed four additional real-time water temperature sensors in bays along the Texas coast. The sensors will enhance CBI's ability to collect critical data used to predict cold-stunning events that impact endangered sea turtles.
