One of our cofounders was out at Zillow Networking event and ran into a year 1 graduate Marquiese Garrett. Marquiese was there networking with leaders in the real estate tech world, marketing his new business he launched. You never know where someone will end up in life. We are proud to see Marquiese out in the world using the skills he learned from our program to create his life. We can’t always build the future for our youth but we can build our youth for the future. #impact #networking #fullcircle
About us
ConstructDiversity is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2020 by Seattle based companies with the intent to promote racial and gender diversity within construction and related businesses in the Greater Puget Sound Region of Western Washington. Our Goals 1. Develop & build relationships established on trust through mentorship and executive leadership training. 2. Establish connections with youth through understanding diversity and community partnerships. 3. To provide access and opportunity through mentorship and internship within the partner companies. Construction and its related businesses have historically been predominately managed, run and owned by white males and we recognize the need to open the opportunities that exist within our businesses to people of a color other than white and to promote gender diversity at the same time. Our belief is that if we can show Black youth that they are welcome, wanted and needed in the construction industry and business environment, we can build equitable access and inclusion. We agree that inclusion is the foundation of diversity. Activism is necessary however connection, access and opportunity facilitate lasting change.

And that’s a wrap on year 4 of ConstructDiversity! Earlier this month, we celebrated our young scholars at the Showare Center in Kent, Wa. The event featured inspiring speeches from program alumni, current students, school administrators, and host companies. We’re excited to start recruiting for next year’s cohort. This year’s group set a high standard, and while it will be tough to surpass, we’re committed to giving it our all. 📈 April marks National Financial Literacy Month! We just wrapped up our latest curriculum session with Harry Johnson from AGP Wealth Advisors. Harry emphasized the significance of cultivating a healthy relationship with money beyond just earning it. He delved into managing, multiplying, and maintaining wealth, covering vital concepts like assets vs. liabilities, compound interest, the rule of 72, and the importance of writing their goals out on paper. Huge thanks to Mr. Johnson for sharing his expertise each year! Participation in these sessions is mandatory for students to receive their program stipend. #FinancialLiteracyMonth #WealthManagement #EducationMatters 💰

Last week we had a surprise visit from CD graduate Precious Reed. He recently completed US Navy Bootcamp and is now an ABE. He shared what life in the military is like and his goal of becoming an electrician, purchasing his first home and getting his dream car. We are proud of him for taking the next steps in his career, serving our country, and remembering to come back and inspire this year’s cohort. #constructdiversity #alumni #workforcedevelopment #careeradvancement #navy #usa
