Your ability to make someone feel like you understand them well – the quality of your listening – is one thing that stands out to employers and colleagues. As Mary Beaulieu of Harvard Kennedy School puts it, listening provides the soil from which outstanding leaders grow. Where listening happens
About us
Convu was launched in 2019 with a mission is to make the empowering benefits of good listening available wherever and whenever they are needed. Convu offers Peer Coaching Initiatives, which train people in effective listening, in a number of organizations including the Harvard Chan School of Public Health and the Seven Stones Leadership Community. Convu also trains Mentors to run such programs, and hosts a social network called the Convu Commons. By training peers to coach each other through a pragmatic, learn-by-doing approach, Convu builds trust, openness and commitment among group members, and supports individuals to grow and learn to meet new challenges.

Thank you for sharing Anne Occhipinti! It's inspring to see how Leslie Turner continues to share valuable lessons, creating a ripple effect of good listening. #Convu #Listening #PeerCoaching
Tonight is the 4th time that I have had the extraordinary pleasure of having alum Leslie Turner, MPH be the guest speaker in my Harvard Extension School class on Cultivating Authentic Leadership. I met Leslie when she was an MPH student in the inaugural year that we launched the Peer Coaching Intiative at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health through the hard work and dedication of Marc Roudebush, Ph.D. Leslie learned the Convu method of peer coaching and has stayed very involved with it. I am grateful that despite all else that she juggles, Leslie still comes to my class and magically imparts these lessons in an engaging and genuinely warm way. As my wise (and awesome!) colleague Andrew Bell, Jr. just commented, her execution is flawless. Thank you Leslie! And thanks for spreading the word and skills necessary for good peer coaching. 🙏

🙋 Ever catch yourself doubting your abilities? Imposter Syndrome is when you doubt your own skills and successes. You feel you're not as talented or worthy as others believe, and you're scared that one day, people will realize that. (Source: WebMD) It’s more common than you think, with research showing it’s increasing among professionals and students alike. Our pilot study at Harvard established that participants in a Convu Peer Coaching program experienced less Imposter Syndrome than a control group. Hear from Leslie Turner, MPH about her transformative experience. #Convu #ImposterSyndrome #ImposterPhenomenon

Counselors, coaches, mentors and consultants... beware! The temptation to advise comes in many shapes and sizes; but too much advising kills trust and undermines learning. Listening practice can help you put advice-giving in its place. Your highest priority as a listener is to facilitate learning. The job of an effective listener is not to fix a client's problems, but rather to facilitate a safe space for self-discovery, learning and growth. #Convu #LearningConversation #CoachingConversation #AdviceTrap

Are peers an overlooked resource? In our study Harvard University, we found that students and researchers were able to provide effective listening to their peers in fields ranging from Business and Law to Education, Medicine and Design. Participants learned to develop their natural ability to listen attentively, and provided support to their peers that was assessed as highly valuable--including greater clarity, coping with challenges, and developing interpersonal skills. Watch Leslie Turner, MPH, present our research at the Boston Congress of Public Health, Publisher of BCPH Review: https://bit.ly/3AgYl3U #Convu #PeerCoaching #CapacityBuilding #TalentSolutions #Community #Listening

Convu started as a small pilot at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and grew to become the Harvard University Peer Coaching Initiative (HUPCI), an extra-curricular professional development program that serves 60 to 80 active participants per semester. The HUPCI attracts undergraduates, graduates and post-doctoral researchers. Now in its 5th year, the program has reached over 500 students from ALL of Harvard's Schools, including Business, Law, Medicine, Government, Education, Divinity and Engineering. Follow us to hear some of their stories of growth and empowerment. #Convu #PeerCoaching #Openness #PersonalGrowth #ProfessionalGrowth

Convu's program at Harvard University, The Harvard University Peer Coaching Initiative (HUPCI), is a two-time winner of grants from the Harvard Culture Lab Innovation Fund. Compared to a waitlist of interested students, after one semester participants reported feeling: - Less loneliness - Less Imposter Phenomenon - Greater thriving (as measured by the Brief Inventory of Thriving) - Greater willingness to share their challenges and difficulties - Greater curiosity about another's point of view, even when disagreeing Fueled by our dedication to making good listening more available, Convu is evolving. We aim to collaborate with other universities, communities, and workplaces. Learn more at: https://lnkd.in/ebGFZuur #Convu #PersonalGrowth #ProfessionalGrowth #Harvard
