Newsweek has named Cook Children's one of America's Greatest Workplaces for Women in 2024. We're introducing you to some of the women who make Cook Children's such an amazing place. As assistant vice president for the Center for Community Health (C4CH), Becki Hale, EdD, MA, RDH leads what is best described as Cook Children’s community connectors. Each day, C4CH works to lay the groundwork for healthy families through community health education, resources, and awareness campaigns that promote wellness and prevent injury. For their programs to be successful, it takes a village, or as Hale likes to say, a symphony. “We approach our work through various layers of support within the community,” Hale said. “I like to think of my role as one that allows me to see the entire ‘composition of music’ and support all the incredible instruments coming together to create that musical magic. Yes, the individual instrument can provide beautiful music too, but it’s when they all come together that really creates something special.” Hale’s path to becoming a community health organizer and advocate began in the clinical setting where she was a dental hygienist for 12 years. It was there that she discovered her love for educating others about illness and injury prevention. Read More Here: https://shorturl.at/c9c0t

There is a new line of defense that gives moms power to protect their babies against severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). In 2023, the U.S. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first RSV vaccine for pregnant women, which transfers immunity to newborns. Two Cook Children’s doctors who often treat children hospitalized due to RSV are enthusiastic about this preventative breakthrough. This past year, their excitement became personal. Newsweek has named Cook Children's one of America's Greatest Workplaces for Women in 2024. We're introducing you to some of the women who make Cook Children's such an amazing place. As a Camelot Court Cafeteria cashier at Cook Children’s Medical Center – Prosper, Luciana Pinto de Violtat greets every hungry Cook Children’s guest with a warm and welcoming smile. For her, these moments are more than simple transactions—they are opportunities to spread the kind of hope and compassion she knows can make all the difference in a hospital setting. Six years ago, life threw Violtat an unexpected curveball, forcing her to walk in similar shoes as the customers she now serves. “I was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer,” Violtat said. “Going through that experience made me realize my mission in life is to be kind, compassionate, caring and loving. Thankfully a miracle happened and I am able to say I am cancer free without having to go through chemo. Knowing what it’s like to be a patient in a hospital and being able to walk away from it alive, only made me want to give back. Giving hope and joy to patients is what matters most to me.” Emerging from that harrowing chapter gave her a deep understanding of the patient experience and ignited a passion to offer others a sense of hope. It was that desire to make a difference that led her into the health care world. On her first day on the job earlier this year, Violtat says her coworkers met her with open arms, a kindness that now motivates and inspires her every shift. Read More: https://lnkd.in/gdgRyKVr

Newsweek has named Cook Children's one of America's Greatest Workplaces for Women in 2024. We're introducing you to some of the women who make Cook Children's such an amazing place. Meet Kristen Pyrc, MD, Medical Director, Psychiatry Outpatient Services and Partial Hospitalization Program, Cook Children’s Medical Center - Fort Worth, a child psychiatrist by day and Raising Joy podcast host by passion. When Dr. Pyrc isn’t in the clinic helping children and families navigate the complexities of mental and behavioral health, you’ll find her behind the mic with co-host Wini King leading critical conversations in hopes of changing lives and, in some cases, saving them. With four seasons and more than 80 episodes under her belt, it’s hard for Dr. Pyrc to choose a favorite, but she is partial to the one that started it all. “The very first episode with Dr. Powderly has been the most impactful for me,” she said. “Dr. Powderly was instrumental in starting the Joy Campaign to raise awareness of the youth suicides we were seeing after COVID. Ultimately the podcast came from that, and she was our first guest. I had never seen a physician speak publicly about their own mental health journey, and I feel her bravery and candidness set the tone for the entire podcast.” Dr. Pyrc hails from Hooks, Texas, a small, rural town nestled in the pineywoods of East Texas. It has one stoplight, and Dr. Pyrc was one of only 68 in her high school graduating class. Her passion for health care was ignited during her junior year of high school when she traveled to Guatemala on a medical mission trip. The physicians and nurses she met there inspired her to go to medical school where she discovered her passion for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in her third year. Read More: https://lnkd.in/gdgRyKVr
