Teaching AI in an ethical way. Follow for tips on writing and thinking better w/ AI

I write a weekly email to CopyClub members. I'm a pretty fast writer, but it still takes 10-15 minutes usually. Just did a long one in under 5. Mainly spent on formatting and getting links. So, I sent this text to Justin Kistner (see image). I'm referring to the fact that I think I have found the new way to get work done: Get your context library organized, connect your tool to your files, have your templates well commented, your prompts curated and well-tuned, and use a capture mechanism for what you contribute == and let AI create a fantastic first draft with ease. Justin and I are gonna do a keynote on this soon. Or, join us at CopyClub.ai. We hold several Member Calls a week covering different topics, all recorded. Join now and learn how to integrate the modern way to work into your own workflow.

  • Keeping up with AI is easier with an alliance. You've heard the story: AI is disrupting the world. The pace of change is accelerating. It’s too new to have a concise set of best practices and tools to adopt. It’s still an unfolding edge of possibilities. Busy people can’t find enough time to learn it all on their own, much less keep up with the changes. We started CopyClub.ai to be an alliance among business leaders (and aspiring ones). • Executives • Founders • Solopreneurs • Consultants They all share similar challenges and opportunities. • Email management: They get lots of emails. AI should help process it, like extracting action items, and maybe even triggering a workflow. • Personal branding: They need an audience and reputation to get exposure to new opportunities. They need it for customer acquisition and to help drive awareness for the organizations they work with. • Productivity: They need to be able to create complex deliverables as part of their job. AI could help them create more, faster, and at a higher quality. • Personal development: Upskilling, thriving, career planning, personal growth, handling crucial conversations, etc. AI can help with all of this. But, there's not yet an easy button for it. At least not good ones. Together, we’re able to cover more ground exploring the new technology. We’re able to support each other and be a source of motivation and accountability. It starts with a 4-week coached course. No, the course is not going to teach you everything you need to know about all of the responsibilities you have as a business leader. But, it will open your mind to how to use AI as an indispensable tool for better outcomes in all areas. And, perhaps more importantly, it will prepare you to be part of our community of other business leaders committed to lifelong learning and continuous personal improvement. The real fun begins after the course. As part of the community, we help each other build AI automation workflows. We share news, tools, and tips. Together, we're building a library of resources that go beyond a prompt library (although we have that too). Our members have an unfair advantage in the future of work. We're early adopters who get to make hay before capabilities become commonplace. We’re not dependent on someone else’s black box prompts. We're building the skills that make us irreplaceable.

  • I've found a simple trick that dramatically improves my results when editing drafts with AI. Instead of asking the AI to directly rewrite sections, I request suggestions within brackets like this: [suggested change]. Here's why it works: Control: Brackets give me the power to accept or reject each suggestion individually and quickly. Precision: The AI seems to generate more targeted and specific edits when using brackets. Quality: This approach consistently leads to better suggestions, in my experience. I also limit the AI to 1-2 suggestions at a time, repeating the process 2-3 times. This iterative approach helps me improve my writing quickly yet without giving up too much control. Do you have any AI editing tips?

  • Here's a quick tip to get better results when using generative AI to help you write. In order to get help that doesn't sound like a robot, I start by recording a couple of minutes of me just freely talking about an idea or a concept. I capture it, transcribe it, then feed that to the LLM and ask it to organize my thoughts into the type of article I want. If it's for LinkedIn, I'll ask it to turn it into a 200-300 word post. I define my audience and how I want this post to help them, and explain how that helps my goals as well. Then, I ask for it to help me use 'my sentences and language' and turn that into a functional first draft. Again, I only allow it to use _my language_. This will make it a little awkward, but it will sound like me at least. After that draft, I invoke the Line Editor, asking AI to act as a Line Editor and to make all suggestions [in brackets]. This prevents the LLM from going overboard and rewriting my post. Often, I accept the majority of these suggestions, and then ask it do to another round of Line Editor suggestions, again in brackets, and I then make sure I add any additional context and explain where I want that info to be. After that, I toss it into Grammarly and do a final copy edit myself. This whole process can help me go from an idea to a very strong draft in under 10 minutes. And afterwards, it's my concepts, my words, my perspectives - organized and tidied by AI. Note: I use a tool called WhisperMemos to record and auto-transcribe my voice notes. It even emails the transcript to me automatically. It's a great addition to my workflow. What's your best tip for using AI more effectively?

  • After spending 1,000+ hours using AI, we developed a point of view: AI is a tool for amplifying our thinking, not a robot for auto generating soulless text. Jason and I wanted to gather other professionals who felt like we do. We talked about starting a community. So, our first goal was to see if we had enough value to offer people to achieve their content creator goals. For the past month, we've been serving our first cohort of members in stealth. We were so concerned with delivering value, that we jammed too much content into our first tutorial. One member told us there was enough value in our first session that it was already worth the first month's membership. At the same time, it overwhelmed other members. We spent the next couple of weeks digging deeper into the techniques and tools in our bi-weekly study halls. Having witnessed multiple members having breakthroughs and early wins, we feel confident that we have plenty of value to offer and that we're doing something different. Now, we are excited to tell the rest of the world about CopyClub.AI. We're a community of thought leaders and business professionals that come together to explore the intersection of writing and artificial intelligence. AI is a lot for an individual to figure out and stay on top of on their own. Together, we're curating resources and tools tailored to enhance your AI writing. We call it the CopyClub Compendium, which includes • Custom GPTs: These exclusive tools are at your disposal to refine your thinking, define your perspective, and improve your writing efficiency. • Prompt Library: Our approach to prompts is unique – they're crafted to help you gain deeper insights into your ideal customer and enhance your writing quality. It's not a crappy list of thousands of AI generated, useless prompts. • Writing Resources: From copywriting formulas to editing checklists, we provide resources to make your writing more interesting and effective. Beyond tools and resources, CopyClub is a space for learning and connection: • Live Learning Events: Stay informed with weekly and monthly events, where we break down the latest in AI advancements and their implications for writing. • Supportive Community: Engage in weekly tutorials, dedicated writing time in our twice weekly Study Halls, and monthly office hours for collaborative learning and problem-solving. • Member Directory: Connect with incredible individuals, each bringing their unique strengths, interests, and industry insights. We all share the same ethos of collaborating with AI in order to express yourself. CopyClub is more than just a platform; it's a community dedicated to using AI to do the best writing of our lives. As we prepare for our second cohort, we invite you to join our waitlist and become part of a group that values impactful writing. We look forward to the opportunity to grow and learn together in this new venture.
