“I came into the Dyson school with a strong passion for sustainability. One of the main reasons I chose the Dyson school was due to the school’s focus on improving our world through business, so I was immediately looking for ways to combine these interests." Kayla Singer ’25 highlights what makes the Dyson school so unique. You can help students like Kayla go beyond business to tackle some of the most pressing challenges of our time. Kaitlin Woolley ’12 was leaning toward taking snow pants to an outdoor event, but her husband suggested she leave them home. As she shivered later, she kicked herself – but did not blame her husband. “I felt like I was living out our research,” she said. In a series of experiments, Woolley, professor of marketing and management communications in the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business, and Dr. Sunita Sah, associate professor of management and organizations in the SC Johnson College and faculty fellow at the Cornell Health Policy Center, found that when people go along with opinions that go against their better judgment, they feel more culpable for the decision if things go wrong than if they hadn’t received another opinion.

“So many things that we eat are historically tied to a part of history where being in this country was anything but a pleasant experience if you were someone who looked like me,” Delesa McCruter ’25 said. So she was thrilled when two hospitality entrepreneurs working to elevate the cuisine of the African diaspora visited a course taught by Nolan School lecturer Lilly Jan, Cultures and Cuisine, last semester. Alexander Smalls and Nina Oduro collaborated on The Contemporary African Kitchen: Home Cooking Recipes from the Leading Chefs of Africa, a cookbook that grew out of Smalls’ personal journey to understand the food he loved by tracing the history of the slave trade. On campus, students found inspiration in their visit. #CornellBusiness https://bit.ly/3QGnB8S

It has been amazing to work with and interact with the students and early career professionals in the Cornell CEMS Master in International Management (MIM) program and larger CEMS network. I interact with these students most often in their consulting projects course, which has an expectation of each student working around 20 hours per week in a team of 5-6 people for a whole semester. These teams work with an actual client to address a specific problem involving some global consideration, scope out the work, develop an engagement methodology, and deliver on project deliverables with real consequences. At a higher-level, the CEMS program is about enabling students to pursue future careers and work globally, perhaps with multinational companies, global consultancies, and many other situations. As such, when students get into the Cornell CEMS MIM program, they not only pursue a professional master degree at Cornell but also spend a semester at a global exchange school and work on an international internship. Its a gem of a program. While it is very well-known in places like Europe, it less well-known in the United States than it should be --- by a long shot. This is why I am glad that Kristy Bleizeffer helped pull together such a great piece to shed more light on program, through the help of my Cornell colleagues, like Sarah Magnus-Sharpe, Dana Matthews, Gail Fink, Jinhua Zhao, and Andrew Karolyi working and supporting behind the scenes. Most importantly, the article highlights rock star, Cornell CEMsies like Flaminia Granati, Kexin (Ramona) Liu, Manasi Mukund Kabra, and Tristan Say. We miss you here, and we hope that you inspire many others through not only your past experiences but also great work and efforts that you do everyday. Much gratitude to all.
