About us
The Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) is an association of 765 nonprofit independent colleges and universities, state-based councils of independent colleges, and other higher education affiliates, that works to support college and university leadership, advance institutional excellence, and enhance public understanding of independent higher education’s contributions to society. CIC offers conferences, seminars, publications, and other programs and services that help institutions improve educational quality, administrative and financial performance, student outcomes, and institutional visibility. Founded in 1956, CIC conducts the largest annual conferences of college and university presidents and of chief academic officers in the United States.

CIC will be revising the Key Indicators Tool (KIT) and Financial Indicators Tool (FIT) benchmarking tools. A new design will provide more interactive and user-friendly engagement with this valuable member resource, which CIC started offering as standard in CIC membership in 2004. These annual reports provide customized benchmarking of an institution’s performance based on various metrics, such as student enrollment and financial performance. The new interactive versions of KIT and FIT will be available in Spring 2025. CIC is excited to announce the second multimillion-dollar grant in two years from Lilly Endowment Inc. to increase grants awarded to colleges and universities offering programs related to calling and vocation. The grant builds upon the success of CIC’s development of NetVUE (Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education), our nationwide network of over 300 colleges and universities formed to enrich the theological and intellectual exploration of vocation among undergraduate students. The $19,980,000 grant is the largest single gift in CIC’s history. Read more: https://lnkd.in/ejCYVG-S
