Lancaster County is located in South Central Pennsylvania along the Susquehanna River, approximately 70 miles west of Philadelphia. It is an area of just 984 square miles, houses a population of over 500,000 residents, and approximately 50,000 of them are under the age of 18. It is home to a diverse population with agricultural roots, a large Amish community, 60 municipalities, a third class city, and a strong sense of history.

The County of Lancaster is #hiring a PT Caseworker! The part-time overnight crisis intervention staff works with individuals who are in crisis to determine their needs, to provide short term intervention, and to link them with appropriate services in the community. The crisis staff exercises considerable independent judgment and decision making. The crisis staff is responsible for responding to incoming calls to the crisis office both to the county crisis line and the 988 line. In addition, staff may assist in the completion of the voluntary admission to a Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) or with the completion of the involuntary commitment. Staff may complete a mobile outreach to evaluate the person in the community. A mobile outreach is performed when staff are unsure of what services may be beneficial in meeting the needs of the consumer or other concerned party. The outreach may also conclude in the completion of an involuntary commitment because the person in need of treatment is unwilling or unable to seek treatment on their own. This may include, but is not limited to a person’s home, police department, or hospital emergency room. Crisis staff work various shifts. As crisis is a 24-hour program, staff must be able to quickly make arrangements for shift coverage in the event a co-worker might call off, leaving them without relief. Staff is also required to work holidays, which currently are 7.5-hour shifts. A full-time staff person is required to work a minimum of 4 major holidays and 2-5 minor holidays per year. Work of the Bailiff Supervisor involves various administrative tasks concerning courthouse security, scheduling, and the timely dissemination of information regarding events.
