About us
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Each day, thousands of people – people just like you – provide compassionate care to those in need. Our network of generous donors, volunteers and employees share a mission of preventing and relieving suffering, here at home and around the world. We roll up our sleeves and donate time, money and blood. We learn or teach life-saving skills so our communities can be better prepared when the need arises. We do this every day because the Red Cross is needed - every day.

Last week, Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces volunteers Patti Wataha and Michael Sakosky had the honor of participating in the Go Red Health Fair at the Grand Junction VA, an event dedicated to raising awareness about heart health and wellness for veterans and active-duty military members. With their deep commitment to supporting our military community, Patti and Michael brought the heart of the Red Cross to the event, offering resources and information to those in need. They engaged with veterans, military families, and staff, sharing valuable insights on how the Red Cross can help service members navigate challenges both at home and on the front lines. In addition to spreading awareness about the Red Cross's vital programs and services, they also connected veterans with support options available through the Service to the Armed Forces program—whether it was for emergency communications, mental health resources, or financial assistance. Their presence at the fair helped highlight the invaluable role the Red Cross plays in the lives of those who have served our country. Patti and Michael’s participation at the Go Red Health Fair is just one example of how Red Cross volunteers are continuously on the ground, showing up for our veterans and active-duty military, ensuring they receive the care, support, and connection they deserve.

Let’s take a moment to acknowledge this extraordinary group of individuals. Last Friday, a devastating multi-vehicle crash and fire in the westbound Green River tunnel on Interstate 80 rocked our community. When the Wyoming Chapter of the Red Cross recognized the immediate need, they quickly positioned themselves to assist—ready to support those impacted should our government partners call on us. A heartfelt thank you to Hitching Post Restaurant & Saloon in Green River for generously donating food to help nourish those involved in the response efforts.
