Accepting Student/Volunteer Applications for C++Now 2025  https://lnkd.in/gTc2yNVf We’re very excited to announce the thirteenth year of the C++Now Student Volunteer program! Once again, students with an interest in C++ are invited to attend the April 28 – May 2, 2025 conference in Aspen, CO as Student/Volunteers. The Student/Volunteer program is an excellent way for students and young coders with an interest in C++ to learn about the language and make lasting connections with the community. Student volunteers will handle various tasks during the conference, such as assisting presenters, setting up presentation rooms, running audio/visual equipment, and helping with breaks and the conference picnic. Students from all fields of study are welcome to apply. However, this conference covers advanced C++ topics, and applicants should have ample experience with the C++ programming language and be familiar with general computer science topics. C++Now 2024 Sherry Sontag: Lightning Talk: "Submarines and Spies" youtu.be/lyw7vptZgKE Sherry Sontag, a former author and now Bloomberg employee, shares an intriguing story about her past work on submarines and spies during the Cold War. She highlights the similarities between submarine missions and the audience's experiences, emphasizing creativity and bravery over strict military protocols. One particular story revolves around a submarine captain who ingeniously discovered and tapped Soviet underwater communication cables, providing crucial intelligence. This operation revealed that the Soviets were as fearful of a first strike as the Americans, contributing to the end of the Cold War by fostering mutual understanding. The speaker concludes by inviting the audience to read her book for more detailed accounts of these fascinating missions. --- Sherry Sontag came to Bloomberg Engineering after co-authoring “Blind Man’s Bluff,” a New York Times bestseller about submarine espionage during the Cold War. Hired by Bloomberg 18 years ago for her ability to talk to anyone and actually listen, she is now working to create community consensus among developers for rules governing Bloomberg's massive C++ code base. She is a member of Bloomberg's Code Governance Solutions team. She is a graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and Barnard College, Columbia University.

C++Now 2024 Lightning Talk: Tobias Loew "Hilbert Hotel - The Grand Reopening" youtu.be/M8rWPS-eLmU Continuing the story of David and Donald Hilbert's family business --- Tobias Loew Born in the analog year of 1973. Made my first programming experience on a Commodore 64. Wrote a course-management software while in high-school (1992), which is still in use. Finished university with a Phd in Maths: math-models for functional languages. Started C++ in 1999 working on a thermodynamic simulation tool. Got a large Boost when I stumbled over its libraries. Frequent BoostCon/C++Now attendant/speaker since then.
