  • News media has always walked a tightrope of balanced accurate reporting and high ratings. Every story needs an angle and a strong hook to get viewers watching. What if a news broadcast team had to alternate between filming Olympics sporting events and the hostage crisis in real time? Now that’s a point of view we rarely see. #September5, co-written and directed by #TimFehlbaum (Colony, Hell) shows this terrifying story of the abducted Israeli athletes through the lens of ABC Sports as they retooled their live coverage of the 1972 Munich Olympics to track these events in real time. The film stars Peter Sarsgaard as Roone Arledge, the President of ABC Sports chasing the ratings, John Magaro as Geoffrey Mason, the Head of the Control Room in Munich in search of the truth, and Ben Chaplin as Marvin Bader, Head of Operations at ABC Sports in this tense political thriller. Fehlbaum meticulously researched the ABC Sports reporting in order to present a unique perspective distinct from telling the story from the kidnappers and hostages’ perspective. He describes this approach as a “turning point in media history.” #film #movies

  • #WolfMan, starring Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner and Matilda Firth, tells the story of Blake Lovell (Abbott) who takes his wife Charlotte (Garner) and daughter Ginger (Firth) to the old family farmhouse to collect the belongings of his father, who, missing for years, is finally declared deceased. Isolated in the middle of nowhere and stalked by a vicious animal on their arrival, the horrors outside the home are soon paralleled by those inside, as Blake, seemingly infected by a virus, begins to transform into something inhuman and terrifying. • Working with director Jeff Fowler who directed all three Sonic movies, they developed a fresh take on the character. “Jeff had this vision of Sonic as a kid,” Patrick Casey notes. “We embraced that and working with that idea rather than he was already an established hero. But even then, the studio said, ‘This movie has to take place on Earth. It has to be about Sonic hanging out with human actors.'” A breakthrough came when they conceived Sonic as an outsider yearning to connect. “We should start with him arriving on Earth and this whole thing where he grew up in a cave, sort of observing the humans and wanting to be a part of our world,” Miller explains. “The Little Mermaid element, which I think did a lot to make Sonic a sympathetic character instead of just like a wisecracking cartoon.” They were particularly careful about how they handled Sonic’s knowledge of Earth culture. “It’s a pet peeve of ours when a character who wouldn’t know anything about Earth culture is making pop culture references and jokes,” Casey says. “So Sonic is an Earthling. He grew up in hiding, watching TV and stuff over people’s shoulders. That was our trick for the whole movie.” #sonicthehedgehog 3 #film #movies https://lnkd.in/gWCsYia7

  • Co-created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee of Riot Games, #Arcane takes place in the League of Legends universe and its original run was supposed to be just one season. Expanded to two in order to properly flush out the various character arcs and storylines, the series’ 18 episodes center around two cities (Piltover and Zaun), two sisters (Vi and Powder), and the brewing war between them. Executive story editor, writer and co-producer #AmandaOverton is a co-writer on every episode of the series. Her credits to date include Severance, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, The 100 and Motherland: Fort Salem. As an avid video game player, her involvement in Arcane is especially close to her heart. We spoke about the show and its groundbreaking nature, not only through its levelling up of the animated series genre, but in the voice it gives to traditionally underrepresented characters. https://lnkd.in/g_BEymV5

  • The job of finally bringing #Wicked to the big screen was not taken lightly by writers #WinnieHolzman and #DanaFox. Holzman, who wrote the musical stage production along with Stephen Schwartz, has a bond with the characters that dates back nearly 30 years, and both she and Fox felt an incredible sense of passion and responsibility for this project. The film’s enormous success proves that the legacy behind it has now carried over to a new generation. Wicked tells the backstories of G(a)linda (the Good Witch) and Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and the rivalry/friendship they initially shared. What is it about these characters that resonates with so many viewers? Holzman describes the story at its core, “Two people meet and they’re going to change each other’s lives forever. Some part of them sees that and they are rattled to their core. Who hasn’t had that feeling? But I think it’s about the intensity and the fearfulness of being in a relationship that is going to change who you are. And change you into the person that you were always meant to be.” https://lnkd.in/gX3jnvuK
