Minnesota's Debt Fairness Act goes into effect on October 1st impacting healthcare providers and their business partners nationwide. Minnesota based healthcare providers: - Publish collection policy to website, - Revise scheduling policy to allow appointments for those with outstanding balances, and - Revise dispute procedures to include notification requirements whenever a potential billing/coding is reported. Healthcare providers and business partners (including those located out-of-state) with Minnesota guarantors: - Must include required disclosure on initial contact by mail, - Cannot imply services will be denied due to outstanding balance, and - Must file Unclaimed Property report to Minnesota by November 1st. Penalties for violating Minnesota's consumer protection statutes are quite steep. For more information, watch the webinar below!
