Certified Medical Interpreter, Court Interpreter, ATA & CATI member, 2023 AFTI Diversity for Indigenous Languages Award, 2024 CHIA Interpreter of the year
Dear colleagues, I want to share with you a beautiful thank you note I received recently following one of my assignments. It is just a reminder of how important our job is in providing language access no matter what the language pair we’re working with. Even though, we rarely receive a thank you or get acknowledged, know that you are making a difference in someone's day or life by being their voice. It brought tears to my eyes to see this beautiful heartfelt comment that reminded me once again why I do the work I do. Seeing the satisfaction and relief on the face of someone hearing their native language and knowing they can convey their message through you is truly priceless. Let's continue doing our best in providing language access and doing this beautiful and important work. #languageaccess #Chujlanguage #Indigenouslanguages

On October 29, 2024, CCC Director, John Arroyave, held a 1-day interpreting training at the Portland Police Bureau, in Oregon. Crucial Communications Across Languages, written by Natasha Haunsperger, officer, of PPB, states "Numerous U.S. police agencies have prioritized developing and implementing language access plans and programs. Anecdotal evidence and emerging academic research on forensic interpreting indicate (1) the use of qualified, trained interpreters is an essential element of successful criminal justice/police interviews with LEP persons, and (2) the implementation of policies to foster such usage should be further prioritized and accelerated." CCC was honored to be part of this initiative.
