I help aviators incorporate mental performance techniques into flying to accelerate progress & increase confidence - Retired Fighter Pilot and USAF Weapons School Graduate - Keynote Speaker

Exciting News! I’m thrilled to announce that my article, "The Critical Role of Mental Performance Training in Aviation," has been published in the Ninety-Nines magazine as the first in a regular column! A huge thank you to the The Ninety-Nines, Inc.®, International Organization of Women Pilots and their International President, Robin Hadfield, for this incredible opportunity to share about this important topic. It’s exciting to see the aviation community recognizing the value of mental performance training in enhancing safety, confidence, and overall success. If you’re a female pilot or student pilot, I highly encourage you to join the Ninety-Nines, an amazing organization supporting women in aviation. For organizations looking to spotlight mental performance training in aviation, I’d love to contribute to your publications or websites. Let’s connect! #MentalPerformance #AviationSafety #WomenInAviation #TheNinetyNines #PilotTraining

There seems to be some misunderstanding about what I teach pilots and why. Let me provide some clarity. Aviation is a tough path, and if you want to reach the highest levels, you need “thick skin” and the ability to recover quickly when knocked down. There’s no doubt about that. Mental performance training is about building or reinforcing that mental toughness. Here’s an analogy to explain: Think of mental toughness as a helmet. A great helmet has a hard outer shell, protective padding inside, and a secure, comfortable strap. Some highly successful aviators naturally have an excellent helmet—they don’t feel the blows as sharply, so they navigate challenges more effectively. Now imagine someone with a helmet that has the hard outer shell but no padding inside. They can take hits, but it hurts more, and over time, the toll adds up. They may slow down their journey to recover between blows, which isn’t ideal in aviation, or they might give up entirely. Mental performance training upgrades that helmet, so you’re better equipped to thrive in this demanding environment. Even the best helmets need upgrades over time. Some aviators intuitively make those adjustments, but others benefit from guidance. That’s where mental performance training comes in for pilots at all levels—not just for new pilots. To be clear, I’m not advocating for aviation to take a softer approach. My mission is to help aviators excel in the tough environment that aviation is, teaching them to handle both the “tough love” from caring instructors and the unyielding feedback from the aircraft itself. #PilotLife #AviationTraining #AviationGoals #AviationNation #PilotInTraining #AviationCommunity #ProfessionalPilot #AviationCareer #PilotDevelopment

  • Protect Your Thought Energy: Preparing for “What If” Scenarios High performers know that preparation isn’t pessimism—it’s a key to success. Things will go wrong. As the saying goes, “No plan survives first contact with the enemy,” or as Mike Tyson famously put it, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.” By planning in advance for your “what if” scenarios, (ton include how you want to think, feel and respond) you: 1. Adapt more easily when challenges arise. 2. Reduce pre-event worry, freeing up your mental energy. If things go wrong, instead of wasting thought energy or stressing over the unknown, you’ll have a plan of action—to include how you want to think, feel, and respond in the moment. Before your next event—or flight for you pilots—take time to map out your response to potential “what if” situations. This proactive approach lightens your psychological load and positions you to maximize performance.
