CO— by U.S. Chamber of Commerce has created a new online tool to help businesses follow the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA). By January 1, 2025, U.S. small businesses must file beneficial ownership information reports (BOIR) with the Department of the Treasury. Missing this deadline could lead to fines and criminal charges. The law, enacted in 2021, aims to prevent illegal activities like tax fraud, money laundering, and terrorism financing. Businesses need to provide their legal name, trademarks, current U.S. address, taxpayer identification number, and the jurisdiction where they were formed or registered.
