Last week the Colorado State University Career Center held our fall semester career fairs. Across three days (two for All Majors and one for Engineering), we connected nearly 3,500 students with 270 employers! Our team knocked it out of the park this semester, and it was so cool getting to see how confident our students were as they navigated the fair floor. Was it exhausting? Absolutely. Did it make for days that were somehow both long and rushed? Yep! Was it worth it? 100%! #gorams 🐏 💚

Did you know that the CSU Fall Career Fair is coming up next week? It's happening on Monday, September 23rd and Wednesday, September 25th. You might be thinking ok, good to know, but why should I attend this event? Many students think that Career Fairs are only for those who are ready to land their full-time job after graduation. However, there are many reasons to attend, no matter where you are in your college career! 1). Career Exploration: This is a great place to learn about different companies, the work they do, the roles they are hiring for, and hear about workplace culture. Career Fairs are a fantastic way to gather information and see what sounds interesting to research further. 2). Build Confidence: Talking to strangers about your skills and career interests can be intimidating, especially if you’ve never done it before. Connecting with recruiters at a fair and learning how to talk about yourself and ask questions is a great way to become more familiar and comfortable with this aspect of job searching. 3). Inspiration: You never know what might happen at these type of events! You might learn of a job you never knew existed, discover a company whose mission totally lights you up, or connect with a recruiter whose story inspires you. All of which can provide inspiration and motivation for your own career journey. A Career Fair can be about so much more than landing a job. (Though it's great for that too!) Attending this event is a way to understand more about the world of work. Even if you attend and get confirmation about what doesn’t interest you, that’s valuable information too. By exploring what types of opportunities exist and building your confidence to talk to others about your career interests, you are taking proactive steps towards future satisfaction and success.

Wow. Just wow. 🥹🥹🥹 As I start my week without a workshop to prep, I’m overcome with awe at how special the last two weeks were for the Colorado State University Career Center. As part of a pilot through CSU Student Success Initiatives, we were able to host 30 PAID student interns for the SPARK Summer Internship Program’s Internship Intensive. Everyday we met as a group, did a brief workshop, and visited one of seven on-campus employer sites that would eventually host 3-5 students on multidisciplinary team projects for the rest of the summer. We were reminded of the importance of self and community reflection, of laughing while you learn, and of not forgetting to dream along the way. I knew SPARK had the potential to be a special program but these students and their infectious curiosity, compassion, and engagement took it to another level! I cannot wait to see the impact that they make with their projects this summer. Stay tuned! Thanks to Michael Chapman, M.S. and Samantha Hyland Boren for holding it down with me! The last two weeks was a TEAM EFFORT! #BringLearningToLife #PayYourInterns #SPARK #InternshipProgram #StudentSuccess #CareerDevelopment #HopesAndDreams #SomethingSpecial
