Do you know ALICE? ALICE stands for Asset-Limited Income-Constrained Employed. It is a report that looks at the population of state residents who are working their hardest at the jobs that are available to them and are still not making enough to make ends meet. They have to choose between paying for housing or buying food, between keeping the lights on and putting gas in the car. In the #PaidLeavePodcast, Nancy sits down with Lisa Tepper Bates, President and CEO of the United Way of Connecticut, to talk more about what life looks like for these individuals and families. https://lnkd.in/e3Vy3r68

On December 19, CT Paid Leave held a press conference at Hartford Prints! to announce an exciting milestone - $1 billion in paid leave benefits to Connecticut workers! We couldn’t have done this without the support of Governor Ned Lamont, Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, Senator Julie Kushner, and the hundreds of advocates from all over the state that pushed for the passage of this legislation in 2019. As we prepare for 2025, we took a moment to reflect on the success of 2024! Thank you to all who joined us in celebration. Dealing with a serious injury or illness is bad enough but then being in jeopardy of losing your housing because you can't work adds another layer of stress that no one should have to face. Taking the time to properly heal while maintaining a safe place to live is critical. CT Paid Leave is a resource for workers who experience such serious health conditions, removing some of the burden of paying the rent or mortgage while they recover. "Housing rights are human rights — thankfully, knowing your rights and knowing what services are available can make all the difference in the world to someone facing housing insecurity" says Rashida Rattray-Reid of the Connecticut Fair Housing Center.
