  • This week on The Beat, CTSNet Editor-in-Chief Joel Dunning had the opportunity to speak with Professor Mark Redmond about the ROSS procedure at the 2024 Birmingham Review Course. They discuss the current status of the ROSS procedure, the evolution of this procedure, and its benefits. They also discuss the steps for a surgeon to become experienced enough to perform the ROSS procedure and how trainee techniques have changed. Joel also reviews recent JANS articles on rigid sternal fixation and enhanced recovery for opioid-free analgesia after cardiac surgery, long-term health outcomes of young patients with low complexity coronary disease, evaluation of the nonstapling bullectomy by manual suturing for young men with primary spontaneous pneumothorax, and risk factors and early outcomes associated with prolonged pleural effusion/chylothorax after pediatric cardiac surgery. In addition, Joel explores the Bedi-IMA buttress, transfer technique from femoro-jugular veno-venous ECMO to veno-pulmonary ECMO with a ProtekDuo cannula, and modified Lecompte combined with pulmonary valve replacement and reduction pulmonary arterioplasty for TOF/APV-like syndrome.
