Beyond the already bad situations of domestic abuse, situations can rapidly degrade, resulting in what's known as femicide. These numbers should shock and drive you to action. What action? Well, good thing you're a #creditunion... One of the strongest strings between an abuser and victim is financial. As #creditunions, you possess effective scissors ✂️ to cut that control and help them start the journey to financial freedom. And we've got some tools to help you sharpen those scissors, to keep the metaphors flowing.
About us
Domestic abuse is powered by financial abuse. CU SAFE provides the tools for your credit union to separate checking, credit, phones, and more so abuse survivors can get a hand up (not a hand out) on their path to financial freedom. Our CU SAFE for Events initiative helps address the problem of unwanted advances and harassment in professional gatherings. Incorporate buddy walks to ensure no one walks back alone. Implement discreet reporting and extrication from uncomfortable situations (along with documenting of problem attendees). Create community with empowering activities like group walks, self-defense sessions, and more.

Abuse = Control. And that phone can be both a lifeline and a tether to an abuser. At CU SAFE, we help clip those strings of control so survivors can walk their own path to financial freedom. But this video? This is advice for everyone. Disclosure: If you or someone you know is in a dangerous situation, call 911, 800-799-SAFE, or text "START" to 88788. If you're in New Mexico, connect with #creditunions and DVRCs through the chatbot on https://cusafe.care. And yes, I'm still wearing 🩴.

What is CU SAFE? Great question! Let's go: 🟣 A toolkit for #CreditUnions, in partnership with local domestic violence resource centers (DVRCs), to unleash their superpowers and clip the strings of control for DV survivors, "empowering" them to achieve financial freedom. From setting up new checking accounts to providing mobile communication capability, it's about ensuring survivors can rebuild their financial life without the burdens of control. 🟣 An ecosystem of empathetic technology (“tempathy”) providers whose products "empower" you to create stronger connections with your members (and make sure DV survivors can cross that bridge to a better life) 🟣 Tangible strategies to adopt at #CreditUnion events so uncomfortable or potentially dangerous situations are avoided, while offering "empowerment" opportunities that also create community and raise women together 🟣 A platform to encourage sharing, where the great stories of our credit union movement can be heard, "empowering" the efforts at CUs small and large across the country; through podcasts and other media! Ready to bring CU SAFE empowerment into your credit union? We're driven to help end financial abuse and build greater community. Let's advance the credit union mission together!
