✋ 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬. Although they do not replace medical check-ups or mammograms, they are an essential first step toward self-care. One of our goals is to ensure that all women in Cabo Verde, especially those with limited access to healthcare, know how to detect early signs of #breastcancer and take the right steps to act. 🗣️ During our activities, we talk about this technique and collect the necessary information to guide women toward the next steps in their health care journey. 🌍 In many parts of the world, access to healthcare and information about women's health is still a privilege. We believe it must be a basic right.

Cuida d’bo began its journey in São Vicente, one of Cabo Verde’s smaller islands, home to about 76,000 people—most living in the city of Mindelo 🇨🇻 🏥Its ‘Hospital Dr. Baptista de Sousa’ is the main healthcare hub for the island and the Barlavento region, which also includes Santo Antão, Santa Luzia, São Nicolau, Sal, and Boa Vista. The population faces a significant cancer burden, with the disease being the third leading cause of death in Cabo Verde. Breast cancer, the most common cancer among African women, poses a major challenge for the country’s health system 👉Tackling this is now our main focus, as we work to improve survival rates through better early detection. 📊 Our Activity Report 2024 highlights the context of our work, our milestones so far, and our vision for the future: https://lnkd.in/d2RUW75M 🔎Visit our website and discover how you can contribute to our mission!

In Cabo Verde 🇨🇻 breast cancer makes up 30% of women’s cancers, yet there’s no screening program, which drastically affects survival rates. 🎯 We close October with a total of €3,883 raised over these months of activity and 675 women reached in Cabo Verde. 🤝 With your support, our breast cancer campaigns continue to serve vulnerable communities. Our team has met hundreds of women like Maria, who hesitated to visit the doctor out of fear of treatment costs, and Vera, who missed a mammogram after hearing it might be painful, or Cintia, worried for her friend, who felt too embarrassed to share her symptoms with a doctor. Others, like Vaina, confessed that her health is never a priority as they work nearly all day, every day. Cuida d’bo is committed to changing this reality, because healthcare should be a right, not a privilege. 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐰𝐞’𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥, 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬. 🌱 The seed of this initiative was planted over a year ago, and today, Cuida d'bo stands as an organisation with a clear mission: to improve women's access to healthcare, regardless of their location or social background. 📢 Yesterday, we celebrated our official launch in Cape Verde, on the island of São Vicente, where have already reached over 400 women in vulnerable communities and forged key partnerships with institutions, organisations, and professionals. 💬 A special thank you to Rodrigo Martins, the councilor for social affairs at the São Vicente City Council, for opening the event, and to our expert panelists for discussing crucial topics such as: 🔹 The importance of implementing a breast cancer screening program in the country through improved infrastructure and equipment. 🔹 Enhancing the evacuation system for women requiring treatments not available within the country. 🔹 Increasing the quantity and quality of breast cancer awareness campaigns among the most disadvantaged communities. 🔍 We also presented our operational goals, fundraising and and communication strategies, led by our team. 🤝 Special thanks to representatives from Volunturismo SV and Ana Fernandes for all the support. Thank you all for joining us! 👐 Together, we are working towards a world where all women have equal opportunities to access the information, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment necessary for a dignified and fulfilling life. 📢 Follow us on social media & visit our website for all updates!
