We empower families of early readers by providing strategies and guidance to help children grow as successful readers.
About us
We empower families of early readers by providing strategies, individualized interventions, and expert guidance to help children grow as successful readers and writers. Our programs are designed for children ages 4-7 years old. We offer two types of programs. Our early readers' book clubs are designed to help your child grow as a reader while having fun through storytime, art, and games. Our Individualized Literacy Plan program helps families of struggling readers by identifying your child's reading needs and creating a customized 9-week plan guided by our reading experts.

In a time when early childhood and multilingual families are experiencing increased turmoil, we are committed to building and sustaining relationships that challenge the systemic inequities that families face. We believe in the power of building relationships based on trust that recognizes how families bring a wealth of knowledge and love for their children. This year, we're partnering with 320 families across 7 schools to promote a love for reading through centering families' cultural and linguistic identities as crucial parts of a child's holistic learning journey. This video highlights the impact of playful learning across languages that strengthens relationships between children, parents, and schools to promote reading confidence. Join us in providing intentional, relational, multilingual family literacy programs that promote a love for reading and recognize families as a crucial part of who children are and how they experience school, learning, and their community. https://lnkd.in/ezv7Ji7i

We are still over the moon from last week's Stories Under the Stars event. A special evening celebrating families, community, and reading. Thank you to all of our incredible supporters, families, and partners who came to join us! We were particularly excited to highlight our partnerships with the San José Public Library Foundation, Franklin-McKinley School District, and NewSchools. During the event, Magda, a parent of a first-grader, shared, “From the very first week (of the program), we saw incredible changes in Adam; he started reading his first book.” Thank you for celebrating with us!

A few of our staff and #SJPL staff with Executive Director Leigh M. at last Friday's Cultivating Literacy event! Through the Foundation's support of the SJ Learns program, Cultivating Literacy was able to expand from 120 to 320 families served this year at the Franklin McKinley School District. Thank you so much for the applause -- we were truly honored to be recognized for the partnership!
