Teachers, how often do you give students feedback on their strengths? OECD data suggest a quarter of students almost never receive it. According to the survey, students who receive more teacher feedback report higher social and emotional skills, especially creativity, achievement motivation, optimism, persistence and trust. Director of Possibilities: Creativity and Education I Co-host of the Fueling Creativity in Education Podcast

Schools were not built for learning. Schools were built for schooling. - Will Richardson In our latest episode of the Fueling Creativity in Education podcast, Matthew Worwood and I sit down with the co-founder of the Big Questions Institute, Will Richardson. We dive into the profound changes reshaping education as we move from the Third to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Here are three key topics we explore: 1. Unintended Consequences of Technological Advancements: Will dives into the historical patterns of technological disruptions, citing the Internet and AI as double-edged swords with substantial benefits and profound challenges. He highlights pressing issues such as misinformation and societal disconnect, urging us to reflect on the long-term impacts of our innovations. 2. Imagining "Irresistible Futures": Emphasizing the significance of visionary thinking, Will advocates for the idea of "irresistible futures" — compelling, optimistic visions for education that can galvanize communities and institutions. He questions why our current system often falls short of this ideal, stressing the necessity for profound changes that go beyond minor adjustments. 3. Student Inclusion in Decision-Making: Will also critiques the glaring absence of students in conversations about their own educational experiences. He argues for their integral involvement in decision-making processes, from the classroom to administrative levels. Tune in to gain deeper insights into how we can reimagine education, focus on true learning, and prepare our students for a future full of potential and promise. ✏ Do we need a thinking revolution in our education system? Classrooms need to be places where students are not just passive learners but active creators, thinkers, and collaborators. It is time to create a thinking revolution where schools are filled with inspired and engaged students who think in meaningful and relevant ways. Over the last several years, I consulted with several knowledgeable educators and, with their help, developed the CREATE Method.  The CREATE Method is designed to equip educators with strategies that inspire and engage students in learning. What is the CREATE Method? The CREATE Method is a comprehensive framework that includes six key components: 📔 Content Creator: Designing curriculum that encourages student’s curiosity and engages them in meaningful learning 📕 Risk Facilitator: Creating a safe, open-minded environment for students to take creative risks and celebrate failure. 📗 Experience Navigator: Guiding students through hands-on learning experiences. 📘 Attitude Shaper: Fostering a positive mindset towards deeper thinking and the learning process. 📙 Team Transformer: Promoting collaboration and teamwork. 📒 Evaluation Designer: Developing effective ways to assess and reflect on learning. Each component is crafted to enhance creative and critical thinking in the classroom, helping students to thrive in an ever-changing world. Join the Conversation! We'd love to hear from you! How do you currently foster creativity in your classroom? Share your experiences or ask any questions in the comments below. Let's inspire each other to create extraordinary learning environments! 🌟 #EducationInnovation #CreativeThinking #CREATEMethod #Curiosity2Create #deeperthinking

  • Again and again it is proven how important creative and critical thinking skills are to students, not just for their academic performance, but also for their mental health and future success. We need to make sure our classrooms and teachers get the support they so desperately need. If 60+ countries around the world can do it, then why can't we?

Is creativity something you are born with? New OECD data shows that 15-year-olds who believe this skill can be learned typically outperform students with a fixed mindset on creativity. Meanwhile, students who believe their creativity levels are fixed tend to fall behind in creative performance. The survey results also indicate that excellence in creative thinking isn’t limited to just the top academic performers. • Behind every lesson, there's a heartbeat. 💓 As both educators and learners, the demands can be immense, often pushing us to our limits. Yet, embracing kindness becomes our superpower in this fast-paced world. As we gear up for a new school year, let's extend a little extra grace to all who are navigating their own journeys, including ourselves. Sometimes, even as adults and educators, managing our emotions can be a challenge. But when we lead with empathy, we create space for growth and connection.
