A recent pilot study explored the effects of CBD on chronic pain in 32 patients with Nail-Patella Syndrome, a rare genetic condition. Over three months, participants took CBD isolate (900mg daily on average) and saw significant improvements in pain intensity. Notably, 63% of those taking painkillers, stopped all medications because CBD was more effective. Those on morphine reduced their dosage by 50%. Participants also showed improvements in mental health, social functioning, and role limitations due to physical health problems. Some experienced relief from attention and sleep disorders. The study also found increased levels of serotonin and noradrenaline, potentially linking these neurotransmitters to the improvements. A new scientific review, published in the journal Medical Cannabis and Cannabinoids, sheds light on the potential benefits of high-CBD, low-THC cannabis products for pediatric patients. The review highlights how medical cannabis can significantly improve the quality of life for children with conditions like autism, epilepsy, cancer, and more, showing promising results in reducing key symptoms. The study, which analyzed 10 studies since 2019, found generally positive effects across various health conditions, with mild and manageable side effects. Importantly, the research emphasized the importance of medical cannabis as a complementary treatment option, especially for pediatric autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This review reinforces the potential of cannabis-based treatments to offer an alternative to traditional pharmaceuticals, supporting the wellness of young patients with fewer side effects. A recent double-blind study out of Thailand examined the effects of cannabis oil in patients with severe knee osteoarthritis who were waiting for knee replacements. The study found that cannabis oil led to significant improvements in pain, daily activities, and quality of life compared to a placebo. The research also confirmed that there were no issues with liver or kidney function. This adds to the growing body of evidence supporting the potential benefits of cannabis for managing osteoarthritis.
