Winner of the Young Ideas award: visiBIT 🍄 visiBIT emerged during a run around the lakes in Copenhagen in 2023. Biotechnologist and founder Line Kloster Pedersen was inspired by how fungi create natural pathways in the soil. Her thought was simple: Could asphalt grow from nature? Today, she and her team have developed mycelium – a fungus-based binder that can replace bitumen, the fossil-based substance that makes asphalt so harmful to the environment 🍂 With visiBIT, we can cut up to 83% of CO2 emissions from asphalt production and reduce energy use by as much as 90%. The technology integrates seamlessly into existing asphalt plants, eliminating the need for new machinery and making the transition to sustainability much easier. The Jury says 🗣️ “visiBIT reduces harmful emissions and promotes sustainable production methods through the innovative use of mycelium, transforming the asphalt industry while addressing environmental concerns. It has reimagined road construction inspired by nature and the inherent beauty of the regenerative processes that nature relies on. The company also demonstrates originality in its approach to a global challenge. It acts as a catalyst for change, inspiring new ways to integrate natural materials and develop energy-efficient circular productions. Last but certainly not least, visiBIT transitioned from an idea to a startup that is setting entirely new standards for sustainable global road construction.” Congratulations with the award, Visibuilt! ✨ The Danish Design Award is a collaboration between DDC – Danish Design Center and Design denmark. Winner of a Danish Design Award 2024: Gabriel LOOP 🧵 The textile industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world, partly due to the consumption of non-renewable resources. Gabriel LOOP enables real change by decoupling the production of new textiles from the need for new resources. Instead, it utilizes materials and resources already in circulation. Gabriel LOOP operates as a closed-loop take-back system that diverts textile waste from landfills and reduces our dependence on natural resources, supporting the transition to a circular economy. The products are crafted from 100% recycled polyester sourced from post-consumer and post-industrial materials, combining textile waste with recycled plastic bottles 👕♻️ The Jury says 🗣️ “Gabriel LOOP goes beyond its aesthetics; it represents a comprehensive solution that addresses how sustainability should be embedded across an entire product lifecycle. This commitment invites industry partners and consumers to take part in reshaping how resources are valued, used, and repurposed. The scalability of the solution makes it compelling, as it serves as a model for other companies to emulate, amplifying positive change industry-wide. Their focus on innovation, transparency, and collaboration paves the way for the broader adoption of circular models, steering industries toward a future where sustainability is integrated as a standard.” Congratulations with the award, Gabriel! ✨ The Danish Design Award is a collaboration between DDC – Danish Design Center and Design denmark. Winner of a Danish Design Award 2024: Caramma support bottle 🍼 The Caramma support bottle by caramma is the first air-free bottle that allows feeding in any natural position, with or without breast milk, promoting connection and stimulating oxytocin to soothe both parents and babies. Its patented vent system mimics the mammary gland, empowering babies to control their rhythm with natural pauses, fostering healthy eating habits, and preventing overfeeding. Half of all mothers in the EU and US struggle, and only 10% meet the Danish Health Authority’s recommended six months of breastfeeding. As parental roles evolve and new laws across Europe boost leave for fathers, the bottle arrives at the right time 🚀 Designed with circular principles, the bottle is made for easy disassembly, recycling, and disinfection, thus reducing waste. Its foldable design supports efficient transport, minimizing its environmental impact ♻️ The Jury says 🗣️ “Caramma support bottle is an empathetic solution that pays attention not only to the child but also to any type of parent. Through a well-researched and well-documented solution, it introduces a novel way of fostering a sense of belonging. The design stands out by its strong character, grounded in a deep understanding of purpose and effect. Beautiful in every sense of the word, this design solution reinvents outdated models that we live by sharing the experience of breastfeeding with all caregivers.
