NORO GREEN CITIES: Driving Urban Sustainability Through Collaboration
Today, as part of the NORO GREEN CITIES project, we kicked off our study visit with a dynamic workshop at the University of Petroleum and Gas in Ploiești.
✨ Special thanks to Rector Alin Diniță for warmly welcoming us and introducing the project’s vision to transform cities into greener, more sustainable areas.
💡 We were delighted by the engaging presence of Costin Lianu, the coordinator of EDIH Wallachia eHub, who energized the room with thought-provoking discussions and interactive dialogue.
📊 Professor Valentina Vasile presented the objectives and development plan of the NORO GREEN CITIES project, focusing on enhancing urban sustainability and fostering innovation. She emphasized that bilateral cooperation is key to achieving these goals, particularly through collaborative efforts with organizations in Norway to develop impactful projects.
🇳🇴 Bjarne Uldal from Nordic Edge captivated participants with his insightful presentation, opening with the question, “What does Norway mean to you?” He highlighted shared opportunities between Romania and Norway, particularly in the context of energy and innovation, with oil and gas as a common denominator for both countries. Nordic Edge’s smart city solutions sparked great interest among participants, inspiring curiosity and a deeper understanding of sustainable urban development.
One of the workshop’s standout moments was the metaphor presented by Mr. Uldal, describing the “body, soul, and mind of a city” as essential components of any smart city project. This powerful analogy underlined the importance of holistic approaches to urban transformation, ensuring improved quality of life for all residents.
🌐 Judith Pretty from EDIH Oceanopolis delivered an inspiring presentation on the importance of innovation ecosystems in supporting the green and digital transition. She showcased examples of how Oceanopolis fosters collaboration between municipalities, businesses, and academic institutions to create sustainable, smart solutions for urban environments.
Professor Gheorghe Brănoiu from UPG presented the impressive results of the project “Hybrid System for Energy Efficiency Using Geothermal Energy” implemented on the UPG campus. This initiative highlights the potential of innovative solutions in improving energy efficiency and sustainability.
The day continues with a study visit to Ploiești City Hall, where we explore initiatives and ongoing projects. Stay tuned for more details!
Together, we continue to build bridges and develop innovative solutions for the cities of tomorrow. Let’s redefine urban living through sustainability, innovation, and collaboration! 💚✨
