This last weekend, the DE team celebrated the holiday season in the Bay! Our day included taking a private tour of the USACE Bay Model, exploring the local area and enjoying a delicious dinner at Pacific Catch. Most importantly, we were able to bring our team members and families together to connect, reflect on our work this last year and celebrate our accomplishments!

Serving Stewards of Western Water
About us
Since 1993, Davids Engineering, Inc. has provided professional engineering and scientific services to public agencies, private entities and individual landowners responsible for managing water resources in the western United States. We are founded on a commitment to the highest standards of professional integrity and intellectual honesty, and have successfully completed projects in Arizona, California, Nebraska, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and in a handful of developing nations. We are proud of the fact that the large majority of our work comes by word-of-mouth or through repeat work for past clients. We are committed to the idea that agricultural sustainability is best achieved through the dual goals of enhancing the productivity and profitability of agricultural enterprise and improving environmental stewardship. Davids Engineering believes that sustainable irrigated agricultural systems in the western U.S. and worldwide are critically important for meeting ever-growing human needs for food, clothing and shelter. The professionals at Davids Engineering all have ties to agriculture, from growing up on family farms to earning agricultural engineering degrees. We have experienced firsthand the challenges confronting irrigated agriculture as western states continue to grow, competition for limited water supplies increases, and public values change. We are committed to helping agricultural water suppliers and farmers address those challenges in a strategic, positive manner by seeking appropriate, responsible balances between commercial agricultural enterprise and environmental stewardship.

A comparison of water collected on 11/20, 11/21, and 11/22 from Big Chico Creek (top row) and Little Chico Creek (bottom row) really tells the story of the Park Fire’s impact on runoff from the recent storms. Tragically, a sizeable portion of the Big Chico Creek watershed was burned in the Park Fire this last summer, while Little Chico Creek was not.

DE recently designed two on-farm recharge basins in the Chowchilla area. The first recharge basin has a maximum capacity of 117.5 acre feet and the second recharge basin has a maximum capacity of 90.3 acre feet. They will utilize flood water diverted from a bypass and conveyed to the recharge basin in order to replenish the groundwater aquifer. Construction on the recharge basins is underway and they will be ready to start receiving water in 2025.

Jeff Davids proudly represented DE at California Department of Water Resources's SGMA anniversary event this past week! He heard from local groundwater sustainability agencies, state leaders, and others in the SGMA community on their experiences in the first 10 years with SGMA and plans for advancing sustainable groundwater management for the next 10+ years.
Former California Governor Jerry Brown kicked off DWR’s SGMA 10 Year Anniversary Event this morning with an inspiring Keynote address. It was the perfect opening to a day filled with reflections on this groundbreaking groundwater law that was set into motion ten years ago. Stay tuned for more highlights from today’s event! #SGMA10Year, #SGMA, #Groundwater

By using innovative tools like OpenET, our team members are able to create maps such as this to demonstrate the impacts of droughts and the ongoing need to manage our limited water resources as wisely as possible. Shout out to Erika Sos for her great work on this illustration!

Daniel Smith and Riley Currey were recently in El Dorado County collecting soil samples from different farms for El Dorado County's Applied Water Validation Study . The purpose of the study is to collaboratively monitor irrigation water use with growers throughout the County and the soils data they collected will help put some of those results into perspective.
