During the American Lawyer Industry Awards ceremony this month, Davis Wright Tremaine LLP and Microsoft were honored as the Best Client-Law Firm Team for our work building out our Protecting Journalists Program, known as ProJourn. This collaboration between DWT, Microsoft, the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation mobilizes teams of seasoned media attorneys and corporate in-house counsel to provide the quality pro bono legal support local journalists and news organizations so critically need. Joanna Plichta Boisen, the Chief Pro Bono & Social Impact Officer at Davis Wright Tremaine, and Christina Piaia, the legal manager for the Protecting Journalists Program at the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, accepted the award at the ceremony in New York City. Last week, we hosted our 2024 LGBTQ+AOC Retreat in Denver, bringing together our attorneys of color and LGBTQ+ affinity groups. Aligned with our Community pillar, this event offered a valuable opportunity for our lawyers to connect and foster a supportive community. We held a range of engaging sessions, including a panel with former Davis Wright Tremaine LLP lawyers who transitioned in-house, presentations on firm economics, and discussions on recruiting, retention, and career advancement. In addition to our substantive programming, we explored Denver through offsite activities and team-building exercises, while also assembling kits for LGBTQ+ youth. The event culminated in a powerful keynote by Wajahat Ali, the acclaimed commentator, writer, and author of Go Back to Where You Came From: And Other Helpful Recommendations on How to Become American. Thank you to everyone who made this wonderful event possible and to everyone who attended!
