If you know Daystar, you know how much our organic farm means to us and to the community. Every fruit and vegetable we grow supplements our on-site food pantry, providing fresh, healthy options for families in need. Also, our garden is where the magic of Kids EAT happens! 🌱 Through this program, kids get to see how food grows, cook healthy meals with our resident nutritionist, and learn to love fresh, nutritious food - all right here in our food pantry farm. 🍅🥕 But Hurricane Milton affected parts of the garden, and some of our crops. We need your help to rebuild and grow even more. With upgrades like new garden structures and propagation sheds, we can make the most of our space, grow even more produce, and continue providing our community with fresh, #organic options. This Black Friday, while the world shops, we’re focusing on growth. Not just in our garden but in our community. 🌱 ✨ The recent storms damaged some of our crops and garden structures that we rely on to grow fresh produce. Our garden impacts 852 individuals and families in our community annually when we're able to operate at full capacity. This Giving Tuesday, we’re raising funds to get back on track, rebuild structures, and expand with a propagation shed and vertical garden structures. These upgrades will help us grow more food, provide more healthy seedlings for neighbors to start their own gardens, and make a bigger impact for families in need. Our goal is to raise $15,000 for this project. Our Food Pantry Farm is an important resource in our community, sharing over 4,000 pounds of fresh produce every year and teaching kids to grow and cook healthy food. (We also start gardens around the community and mentor neighbors in their journey to grow their own food.) But the recent storms damaged some of what makes this possible, including 30 of our fruit trees. With your support, we can build new garden structures and upgrades to grow more food vertically. Sending a huge heartfelt THANK YOU to the students, staff, and families of St. Pete Catholic High School for their incredibly successful annual food drive! 🙌 ❤️ This year, they collected the equivalent of 22,581 cans and raised $8,505 to support Daystar. Their generosity will certainly brighten the holidays for so many in our community - and extend well beyond the season. As a reward for their hard work, the school is giving students a well-deserved day off the Monday after the Super Bowl 🥫🏈.
