The 2024 #designbuild conference and expo was so jam-packed we had to break this month’s #DesignBuildDelivers podcast into two parts! In this special episode, we’re bringing you all the highlights from the 2024 Design-Build Conference & Expo in Dallas. In Part 1 — out now — celebrate some of the award-winning projects: Holt Watters Field Camp, NREL Research & Innovation Laboratory and the Project of the Year — the Applied Research Building at University of Arizona. And hear from the Student Competition finalists from University of Colorado Boulder and NewSchool of Architecture & Design, plus the winning team from the University of Arizona! Part 2 comes out Dec. 2, where we sit down with the Brunelleschi Lifetime Achievement Award winner and the Distinguished Leadership Award honorees. https://lnkd.in/eaDaJbFK Amanda Ayles

At the second annual #VDC Leadership Exchange (#VDCLEx), attendees learned that #AI is now a project teammate, not just a tool. Digital twins are turning reactive management into predictive magic, modular construction solved a massive student housing crisis at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo. VDC tech works for projects of ALL sizes - not just megaprojects. Get the full scoop in our recap blog post by Brian Skripac, DBIA, CM-BIM, DBIA Director of VDC. https://lnkd.in/eAnYm7sY Hamzah Shanbari Robert Brown Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)

Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) reposted this
We are thrilled to share that Governor Hochul signed the Alternative Delivery bill into law on Friday – a culmination of years of hard work by DDC, our industry partners, and leaders including Mayor Adams, Deputy Mayor Joshi, Senators Comrie and Sepulveda, and Assemblymembers Braunstein and Rajkumar. DDC has demonstrated what we can accomplish when we get the tools we need: delivering world-class facilities years faster through our inaugural design-build program and building critical facilities in record time for New Yorkers in emergencies. Thanks to this bill, it will no longer take an emergency to use common-sense tools like CM-build for New York City’s libraries and cultural institutions. We have already started the work to put CM-build to use: exchanging best practices with other public owners, developing fair and balanced contracts, and identifying the projects that can most benefit from this tool as part of our pilot program, managed under a special unit at DDC. Stay tuned for updates in early 2025, when we’ll be seeking input from the industry ahead of our first CM-build solicitations. DDC extends our heartfelt thanks to the colleagues, partners, and leaders at every level who helped get us here. We would like to extend our thanks to the Mayor’s Capital Process Reform Task Force and organizations including American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), AIA New York | Center for Architecture, Building Trades Employers' Association, Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), General Contractors Association, New York Building Congress, and the Subcontractors Trade Association.

Clash detection has often been called the "low-hanging fruit" of Building Information Modeling (#BIM), helping the #AEC industry avoid spatial conflicts and on-site coordination issues. But what’s the real ROI? Ryan Camer, The Haskell Company’s Director of #VDC, shares insights from a $230M #designbuild food project in California, highlighting the savings driven by #BIM coordination and the power of #ConTech. Explore how innovative solutions are transforming project delivery. https://lnkd.in/gJqaKQ5X
