Grateful and excited.
As the year comes to an end and we finalize projects, it’s also a time to reflect on the progress we’ve made, the challenges we've overcome, and the partnerships that have driven real impact.
This year, we’ve seen real progress in the decarbonization of the oil and gas sector, and I’m proud to share some of the milestones we’ve achieved at the The Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC)
We have now built a coalition of 55 of the largest companies in the world, with activities in 104 countries, covering 45% of the world's oil and gas production and 6700 fields. It is a truly inclusive effort, most of the companies are national companies from emerging countries in Asia, Central Asia and Middle East, Africa and South America. Plus our 12 OGCI (Oil and Gas Climate Initiative) members of course, which this year also marked a decade of climate action at scale. We in OGCI are proud to host the broader Charter.
Combined the scale and reach is phenomenal. As is the purpose: to reduce overall emissions and in particular to bring upstream methane and flaring to near zero by 2030. A key climate action recognized by both COP and IPCC.
This year we have built the OGDC platform, developed the Baseline for Action report at COP29, and rolled out the Collaborate & Share program, we’ve taken bold steps toward building a more sustainable, inclusive energy future.
But there’s still much more to be done, and I’m excited for what 2025 will bring as we continue to innovate, collaborate, and drive real change together.
