  • Project Healthy Minds is a new millennial/Gen Z-driven non-profit startup focused on tackling one of the defining issues of our generation: the growing mental health crisis. The #DeerfieldFoundation is proud to support Project Healthy Minds and the work they have done to significantly expand access to mental health resources for American youth, a group that faces considerable barriers to care. During the MVP/beta phase of their digital mental health marketplace (prior to Deerfield’s support of Version 2.0), they exceeded expectations by reaching nearly 400,000 unique users over ~30 months. Since launching V2 on October 8, they have already served over 3,000 new unique users. Project Healthy Minds is dedicated to closing the treatment gap for the 60% of Americans who have mental health conditions but never access care by attacking three barriers to accessing care: stigma, discoverability, and affordability. • The #DeerfieldFoundation is proud to not only support non-profit organizations around the world, but also right here in New York City. As 2024 grantees, The Family Center and Red Door Community amplified their ability to drive meaningful change in the lives of New Yorkers. The Family Center (TFC) is dedicated to strengthening families affected by crisis, illness, or loss, ensuring a secure present and future for their children. This year, with support from the Deerfield Foundation, TFC successfully recruited three student interns to provide direct services to families and individuals. In addition to managing individual client caseloads, each intern took on a special project to support TFC’s mission. Thanks to the structured and compassionate support provided by these interns, we saw remarkable outcomes: ✅ 80% of clients attended individual counseling and group sessions consistently ✅ 75% of clients experienced a reduction in symptoms, including improved emotional regulation, lower relapse rates, and better overall mental health stabilization—resulting in an enhanced quality of life ✅ 70% of clients showed improvements in daily functioning ✅ 85% of clients rated their experience as "very good" or "excellent" on the Client Satisfaction Survey Red Door Community aims to create a welcoming community of free cancer support to bring knowledge, hope, and empowerment to anyone and everyone impacted by cancer and their families. This year, as a #DeerfieldFoundation 2024 grantee, The Red Door Community adapted a series of healthy lifestyle workshops for their Youth Support Program. The project delivered 130 workshop sessions, individual counseling for caregivers and guardians of children with a parent diagnosed with cancer, and short-term counseling sessions for children and teens aged 5-17 facing a parent's cancer diagnosis or loss. • Ever heard of a racing wheelchair? A 2024 grant from the #DeerfieldFoundation has helped fuel the development of the Achilles Kids Wheelchair Racing Program, which is providing a life-changing opportunity for children in New York City. Through this program, kids are not only gaining access to adaptive wheelchair racing, but they’re also joining a supportive community where they can exercise alongside their peers and build mentorship relationships with adults who share their experiences. Thanks to this initiative, Achilles now has a fleet of 10 racing wheelchairs, which are available to any child interested in exploring the paralympic sport of wheelchair racing. We are proud to support organizations like Achilles International in their incredible work to break down barriers and transform the lives of individuals with disabilities. • We are thrilled to celebrate the impact of #DeerfieldFoundation 2024 grantee Nurture Africa's project scaling emergency neonatal and pediatric services in Uganda. Nuture Africa and its seven partner government health centers were provided with vital equipment allowing them to attend to neonatal and pediatric emergencies. Now, with a post-operative ward for caesarean patients and their neonates in the final stages of construction, Nurture Africa continues to execute on their mission of ensuring every family in Uganda has access to the tools and resources necessary to be healthy, educated, and productive. Since the start of Nurture Africa's 2024 grant project, 100% of neonates born through emergency caesarean section at the Nurture Africa health facility survived and 96% of all neonatal and pediatric emergency cases at the Nurture Africa health facility and its seven partner government health centers in the Nansana Municipality were successfully attended to. • That’s a wrap on Deerfield Management's third year in a row participating in the New York Cares Winter Wishes Program. Through Winter Wishes, New York Cares partners with local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and NYC public schools to collect letters from children sharing their holiday wish lists. Many of these children live in family shelters or public housing or come from lower-income families attending Title 1 public schools in areas like Central Queens, the South Bronx, and East Brooklyn. The Deerfield Management team came together for this heartwarming cause and spent a fun-filled afternoon wrapping presents, with the hopes of contributing to this initiative's goal of bringing holiday cheer to thousands of children through heartfelt gifts.
