About us

Define American is a narrative change organization that uses the power of narrative to humanize conversations about immigrants in media. Our advocacy within the news, entertainment, and digital media is creating an America where everyone belongs. We’ve been recognized by Fast Company as one of the most innovative companies in the world for causing a stir by leveraging the power of television networks to make the world more equitable and for reshaping American public opinion. We humanize the conversation on immigration through television consulting, original content development and production, media advocacy, and live events. Define American has consulted on more than 45 films and television projects, such as Grey’s Anatomy and Superstore, spanning networks like ABC and NBC and streaming platforms such as Netflix and Hulu.

🎬 Meet Bambadjan Bamba: an actor, filmmaker, and advocate whose story embodies resilience and courage. From escaping civil war in Ivory Coast to starring in Black Panther, Bambadjan’s journey is one of triumph over uncertainty. Two weeks ago, we hosted a dinner to celebrate Bambadjan receiving his green card! 🎉 As an undocumented immigrant with DACA, he fought for his right to work and provide for his family while advocating for immigrant voices in Hollywood. Today, he is a testament to the power of storytelling. Celebrate Bambadjan and the contributions of undocumented storytellers. Let's amplify undocumented voices and push for an America where everyone belongs. 💪 #RepresentationMatters #ImmigrantStories #Undocujoy

Our Founder and President Jose Antonio Vargas spoke with Joy Reid on "The ReidOut" about the responsibility they and their fellow journalists face on the road ahead: "When the Trump administration.. starts talking about 'illegal aliens,' our job as journalists is to say, 'These are human beings we're talking about. These are people who are part of our society. Objectivity here is a privilege. It's our job to document what is happening at this historic moment." Journalists: are you ready to meet this moment? #journalism #media
