Congratulations Justice 4 Housing for your success in securing an earmark in the Massachusetts economic development bond bill. We look forward to the Office of Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey working with you to bring much needed services and housing to formerly-incarcerated individuals. Thank you, Senator Liz Miranda for your leadership and support.
Big news for Justice 4 Housing! 🎉 With the passage of the Economic Development Bill, we now have critical funding for capital improvements to our programs. Governor Maura Healey officially signed this transformative legislation into law today! This transformative bill paves the way for Brie’s Way: Beginning Reentry In Educational Services, helping us provide digital literacy and entrepreneurship training to individuals transitioning out of incarceration, and expanded programming to our Hands On Defense Network. Additionally, it will allow us to equip other organizations with the knowledge and tools needed to successfully house formerly-incarcerated people. A heartfelt thank you to Senator Liz Miranda for championing this initiative and to Governor Maura Healey for her unwavering support. This milestone relieves a significant financial burden, allowing us to focus on creating real, sustainable change for our constituents. The future is brighter for those rebuilding their lives, and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come! #DeCriminalizeHousing #Justice4Housing

“We have to tell the truth: the health care system we built 60 years ago contributes to the structural racism within the system,” Walsh said. “We have to build a better system.” Thank you, Steven M. Walsh, for calling out the long history and structural components that have brought the Massachusetts health care system to where we are today. I was working in the legislature over twenty years ago when Waltham Hospital was forced to close over the very same structural problems that we're still discussing today. Hopefully, as we enter the next legislative session, leaders there will recognize the need for major, disruptive change and will also ensure that we have more than the usual suspects sitting around the table. We need to be honest about the structural incentives and constraints faced by health care facilities, providers, health plans, and pharmaceutical companies. We already know that solutions driven by balancing the needs of the big players won't produce the outcomes we desperately need. It was a pleasure and a privilege to participate in the Mass Black Expo Ballot Breakdown panel. Thank you, Alyssa Benalfew-Ramos, MPH, Carrie Mays, and Danielle Allen for the exciting and robust exchange. As a Black-owned business, and as Massachusetts' only state-certified #MBE lobbying and government relations firm, the Delaney Policy Group appreciates how participating as an exhibitor and a speaker provided us with the opportunity to share our mission and vision. The Black Economic Council of Massachusetts, Inc. (BECMA) created an environment and a platform where we were able to showcase our business and be recognized for the uniqueness of what we bring to the table. BECMA's mission to drive economic equity and prosperity for Massachusetts to achieve inclusive growth through advocacy, programming, and strategic partnerships that enable Black-owned businesses and Black communities to thrive, aligns with ours. Thank you to President and CEO Nicole Obi and the rest of the Black Economic Council of Massachusetts, Inc. (BECMA) team for such a wonderful experience! We'll definitely be back. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 #becma #blackbusinessesmatter #economicdevelopment #mapoli #bospoli

The Boston Globe is right to point out that the under-resourced Massachusetts Parole Board can't face the current demands for parole review, particularly after the SJC's Mattis decision expanding parole eligibility for crimes committed by those under the age of 21. Resource constraints that could be addressed by either Governor Maura Healey or by the Legislature, shouldn't be an excuse to delay dealing with current injustices. Beyond the Mattis case, there's a whole cohort of individuals who have been sentenced to life without parole and who have already served more than 25 years in state penitentiary. These individuals deserve a chance to be heard to determine whether or not it is in the interest of justice and public safety to return them to the community after a quarter century. Senator Liz Miranda and State Representative Christopher Worrell have filed thoughtful legislation addressing this issue. As the Mattis decision confirms, the way that we think about and approach crime, punishment and justice have changed over recent decades. Our laws should reflect that change. Coverage in the Boston Globe today on the cannabis lab testing crisis provided a great opportunity to talk about why companies and other groups need to engage the policy making and relationship process EARLY. You can read by following the link below. The policy decision making process can seem sudden, but it's not. When the Massachusetts legislature comes back next session with a wave of cannabis industry reforms, their decisions will absolutely make or break existing business models in the cannabis space. The winners and losers will be determined in large part by who is already in the conversation and who is waiting to show up at a hearing to try to make their case in 3 minutes. As they say, if you're not sitting at the table, you might just be dinner. Kudos to Diti Kohli and Scooty Nickerson at Boston Globe Media for such thorough reporting. Thank you to Megan Dobro, Christopher Hudalla, Michael Kahn for their willingness to tell the truth publicly and repeatedly. They took genuine business risks to advocate for a fair and honest industry. If you're in an industry that's dependent on reliable and responsive regulators and a stable statutory framework, you might want to reach out for a free initial consult.
