With SMEs making up 99% of businesses and employing 75% of the workforce in the #WesternBalkans, their engagement in sustainable practices is essential for achieving national and global climate targets. If you are attending #COP29 this year, join #Helvetas side event in Baku on Thursday! ➡ https://lnkd.in/g9__NeMC
🌍🌿 The Helvetas delegation has arrived at #COP29! We are here to advocate for meaningful change — the importance of empowering local communities and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This year, we focus particularly on the #WesternBalkans, where these businesses make up 99% of all enterprises and employ 75% of the workforce. SMEs are essential for sustainable economic growth and a just green transition. However, they’re also among the most vulnerable to the impacts of the #climatecrisis, often struggling with limited capacity to decarbonize and align with evolving climate policies and trade standards. That’s why Helvetas is dedicated to building a robust ecosystem that supports SMEs with access to clean technologies, climate finance, skills, and an active role in shaping climate policies. At COP29, we advocate for: 🟢 High ambition regarding new climate targets. 🟢 A fair, fast, and funded transition away from fossil fuels. 🟢 The application of the polluter-pays principle in climate finance. In our work in international cooperation, which is strongly engaged in adaptation, we call for: 🟢 A substantial scaling up of adaptation finance. 🟢 The full operationalization of the Global Goal on Adaptation. As we stand together at COP29, we emphasize Helvetas’s commitment to transformative and equitable climate solutions. 🌱 📷👇 Md.
