Developing high performance company cultures and leaders

Kudos to the Gedeon Richter Pharma GmbH team & Denison partner Rotraud Diwan for kicking off 2025 on such a high note! Their year-long journey optimizing culture—grounded in the Denison Consulting Model—shows the power of focused assessment, transparent communication, and inclusive involvement across all departments. By turning survey insights into concrete actions—like streamlined process structures, binding guidelines, and a shared vision—they’ve seen real improvements in their second-round results. It’s fantastic to see how much can be accomplished when everyone collaborates toward a common goal!

We at Gedeon Richter are starting the new year with a bang! The reason for this is that we have spent the last year working on optimising our corporate culture. Our starting point was a professional culture analysis using the Denison model. This focuses on individual perceptions of various aspects (e.g. vision, core values, cross-departmental collaboration, customer and team orientation, consequences). The results showed clear areas for action, for which we developed concrete change projects. All departments in our company were involved - in various project groups or as internal consultants. It was important for us to ensure mutual understanding and transparent communication of the measures.  This was successful: the second survey after 12 months showed that these changes - such as new process structures, binding guidelines and a common vision - had been well received within the company and had led to a significant improvement in the overall result. This is shown by the increase in the number of coloured quarters in the circle in the diagram, which represents the different aspects.  Now it is time to work together to stay on the ball and bring what we have decided to life! We wish you all a healthy and happy 2025! #GedeonRichter #Change

Every CEO and investor seeks to measure aspects of an organization that reveal potential success from optimization. Financial performance is the classic approach. Why? Because culture, leadership and organization effectiveness are leading indicators of where a business is headed.... and it can be measured and used as a future value predictor. While many view entering the PE landscape as unnecessarily difficult, Alexander Atzberger points out in this article about his tenure as CEO at PE-backed Optimizely that this is not always the case. He mentions the priority of building a great company, focusing on execution, being decisive, and getting the work done without hesitation. This, combined with creating a great culture, leads to better results. PE operating partners know this and increasingly leverage culture as a value-creation lever. At Denison Consulting our PE-backed clients who lead with a data-driven, analytical approach to culture as measured through the Denison Model Assessment see significant business impact. In a recent analysis of PE-backed companies, those in the top third of our analysis saw EBITDA Growth of 17% and Sales Growth of 6%. Contrast that with companies in the bottom third who experienced EBITDA Decline of -1% and Sales Decline of -4%. The Private Equity world brings a wealth of expertise and operational insights to their portfolio companies. Creating a thriving, measurable culture is another area of value creation for PE-backed companies.
