Axe con, an entirely free digital accessibility conference, is February 26-28, and the lineup is filled with amazing presenters. I recommend everyone attend even if your job role doesn’t include “accessibility.” In fact: go to this conference because your job role needs to include accessibility. I also want to specifically call out Eric Bailey’s talk “It is designed to break your heart: Cultivating a harm reduction mindset as an accessibility practitioner.” Having had a preview of Eric’s talk, I can personally attest to how deeply you will need to hear it this year. I needed it. Eric’s talk will help you truly understand exactly how much impact you can make with every single action you take towards better accessibility. It will unscore the need for accessibility practitioners to practice radical care, and self care and how we can do so. I found the talk to be nurturing and healing, which I believe our community needs right now. https://lnkd.in/gEiZMV-7
Design friends, you've got to add Oliver Schöndorfer to your axe-con agenda.
Designing for accessibility sucks… or does it? 😩 Let’s be honest: Many of us designers have this nagging misconception that accessibility limits creativity, makes things “ugly,” and is only relevant for blind users. But what if I told you that’s not the whole story? What if sublime typography and accessibility could actually go hand in hand? At this year’s #AxeCon hosted by Deque Systems, Inc, I’m confronting my own misconceptions as a designer and type nerd. Is 16px really the minimum font size? Do we have to use high contrast? Are serif typefaces truly off-limits? And is Comic Sans actually the best font for dyslexic readers (while being the worst for everyone else)? Join me for a fun, free, engaging session where I break down this often overwhelming topic into something practical and inspiring. You’ll walk away with actionable guidelines to make your next design project not only beautiful but also beautifully accessible—reaching and convincing more people than ever before. 📅 Thursday, February 27 🎟️ Register here for free: https://lnkd.in/dZJ5FNNi #accessibility #typography #a11y

The ADP Accessibility Team has renamed today (February 13) Va11yntine's Day! Things you might say to a loved one on Va11yntine's Day: - You must have failed WCAG 1.4.4, because when I’m with you, my heart grows 200% and loses functionality. - aria-busy? Or do you have time to be my Va11yntine? - I can tell you pass WCAG 1.4.3 because you really stand out! - You definitely pass WCAG 2.4.7 because it’s easy to focus on what’s great about you! Have a great Va11yntine's Day everyone! With Zest, The ADP Accessibility Team: KJ Schmidt, Dawn Schakett (Skwersky), Kelsey Hall, Stephanie Brooks, Yulia Sarviro, Gouri Khanvilkar, CPWA, and Julia Cotton
You really don't want to miss Lainey Feingold at axe-con. Register to catch it live, or to watch the recording later.
Digital Accessibility since 1995. Author, Negotiator, Lawyer, Keynote Speaker at Law Office of Lainey Feingold
On February 27th I'll be doing a session about the digital accessibility legal landscape at the free online (and recorded for later consumption) Axe-Con Accessibility conference. By February 27th I'll be ready to talk about: #1. how the chaos, disruption, and harmful actions of the trump administration and republican-led congress impact (and don't impact) digital accessibility in the public, private, educational, and federal sector. And what might the current chaos look like over the next 12 months. #2. How state and local laws protecting digital accessibility and disability rights remain strong, how the ADA and long-standing regulations cannot be erased by the stroke of a pen, and where the rays of hope might be in the coming year for digital accessibility. #3 How we all, whatever our role, can (and should!) continue to be champions of digital accessibility in this difficult time and how the law, even without the help of the federal government, can continue to help with that. Register for the free conference here: https://lnkd.in/g2sc_tEt Thx Deque Systems - APAC for inviting me. #a11y #accessibility
