October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – a time to highlight the importance of early detection. In the UK, breast cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in women, accounting for 15% of all female cancer deaths. Lucy Wade shares what Breast Cancer Awareness Month means to her.... "I was one of the 1% of UK women diagnosed with HR+ HER2- breast cancer at just 31, with no gene mutations or family history. What made a significant difference to my outcome, was knowing my body well enough to advocate for it – practicing regular self-checks and catching an early-stage lump that might otherwise have gone unnoticed. I am now cancer-free and finding my new normal. Early detection is key, so make your health a priority and establish a self-check routine - make it part of conversation with friends or family to hold each other accountable." #BreastCancerAwareness #EarlyDetectionSavesLives #AdvocateForYourHealth

As Oct 10 marks World Mental Health Day, Matthew Donadio shares his reflections on our culture of support at the Lucid Group: “You should never be afraid to talk about your mental health. In fact, talking about it and being open about it with your loved ones and colleagues is the first step in managing it. And when you decide that you need additional help, there are more options available than you think, so you can choose the right first step for yourself. I am proud to work for an organization that prioritizes creating a supportive and psychologically safe environment where we are empowered to bring our whole selves to work." #LucidLife #WorldMentalHealthDay #CompassionatelyHuman

As today marks the start of Black History Month (BHM) in the UK, Mmeli Agbasi (Account Executive) shares her reflections on a role model who has transformed the lives of others: "To celebrate Black History Month, I would like to shine a light on an important Black woman in healthcare: Dame Elizabeth Nneka Anionwu. I’m probably being a little bit biased because we share the same Igbo-Nigerian heritage, but her legacy is undeniable. She is renowned for her role in establishing the first UK screening and counselling centre for sickle cell anaemia and thalassaemia in 1979. She advocated relentlessly for people who live with these genetic blood disorders, which predominantly affect people of colour, specifically sickle cell anaemia, which disproportionately affects Black people. I know many people who have sickle cell anaemia or have the trait, so I understand how life-changing her commitment was to spread awareness and provide adequate support to those affected. Her work did not end there; Dame Anionwu helped to share knowledge of the detrimental effects that COVID-19 had on Black and Asian communities. Dame Anionwu’s groundbreaking contributions have inspired me to pursue my ambitions and have the courage to overcome any adversity I face. She has taught me the importance of being a pioneer and understanding that the journey won’t be easy, therefore I need to be resilient and determined. It's important that we celebrate her this month and other trailblazers in the Black community!" #BHM #BlackHistoryMonth #RoleModel #LucidLife

As a result of FDA guidance released earlier this month, we are re-sharing "Decentralised Clinical Trials: Achieving our Ambition?", first published by our #Synetic colleagues in 2023. "This remains an incredibly challenging space for biopharmaceutical companies. There is a stakeholder consensus that decentralised elements will benefit many patients. However, regulatory, legal, logistical and ethical considerations have resulted in a more cautious adoption. This paper discusses the challenges and proposes critical success factors for conducting decentralised elements within the clinical trial setting." Philippa McClure (Senior Strategy Director) shares her reflections on life at Lucid: "I love the variety and the challenge of my work most. Working with clients to design solutions to address their challenges and transform the lives of patients brings me joy professionally. I try to take a different approach each time; no two problems are the same, so no two solutions should be either. I feel so lucky to work with such a clever bunch of people. At Lucid, we say we’re driven by curiosity – I really feel that in the work that we do together. That drive to find out more and make something better is what gets me up in the morning. Having returned to work from a year’s maternity leave; the term ‘matrescence’ is used to describe the transition into motherhood, and I think there needs to be another word to describe the transition back to work after having a baby! I feel like a totally different person now. I think I often come across as confident, but I don’t always feel that way. Everyone is so generous with their time and energy, I’m so grateful for the support of my colleagues – within team and across Lucid – in helping me navigate this experience." #lucidlife #lucidspotlight
