Project Management tip you won't find in the PMBOK: There is a difference between the PERCEIVED problem or opportunity and the REAL problem or opportunity. Someone in management may give you the perceived, but those on the front lines will provide you with the real, and they're not always in alignment. One of my best examples of this was in a #PMO engagement. The CIO said projects weren't getting done and drew out the intake process through implementation on a whiteboard. The project staff was the problem. But once we started talking to project managers and stakeholders, it got messy fast! The process was bureaucratic and had too many "on & off ramps" with compliance and other supporting areas. The project staff was solid, it was the process that needed fine-tuning. The CIO didn't like that (he brought this process from a previous company) but eventually made necessary adjustments. #notinthePMBOK #projectmanagementtips #projectmanagement
