Shining a Light on Autism and Crisis Support
Did you know that autistic individuals are 9 times more likely to die by suicide, while also being far less likely to receive the support they need when in crisis?
That’s because while the current suicide prevention system offers specialized support for high-risk groups like veterans and the LGBTQ+ community, it falls short of addressing the unique needs of autistic individuals, including differences in communication and sensory triggers. As someone on the spectrum, I can tell you firsthand how critical this issue is.
That's why we're launching Project 988, to raise awareness now and begin building a suicide crisis support hotline for autistic individuals. We cannot afford to overlook this glaring oversight any longer—lives depend on it.
Stay tuned for updates, and join me in pushing for change. Together, we can make a difference!
