As we wrap up 2024, a message from Team DFOB: What a monumental year it has been! Thanks to the unwavering support of our generous donors, corporate partners, volunteers, and the entire DFOB community, 2024 has marked a pivotal moment in our mission to serve veterans in need. We are excited to share some of our key highlights: New Roles and Responsibilities: We’ve expanded our team with new roles, ensuring that we have the right people in place to support our mission’s growth. Growing Support Base: The DFOB community continues to thrive, with an increasing number of corporate sponsors, donors, and volunteers joining our cause. A Clearer Vision for the Future: This year, we finalized our vision statement and core values, providing a solid foundation for the future of the organization. Evolving Curriculum: Our curriculum continues to adapt, embracing a holistic approach based on Mind, Body, Spirit, and Relationships for both our service dogs in training and veterans. This allows us to serve our veterans more effectively, ensuring they receive the support they need in all aspects of their lives. Exciting Future Plans: We are thrilled to announce the opening of a new facility in 2025! This will enable us to sustain our growth for years to come and continue to expand our reach and impact. And there is so much more in the works! A Heartfelt Thank You None of this would be possible without the dedication and generosity of all of you who support our mission. Whether you’ve donated, volunteered, or simply spread the word, your contributions are making a tangible difference in the lives of veterans and their families. It’s been an incredible year, and we look forward to what’s ahead. Together, we will continue to serve more veterans in 2025 and beyond. Thank you for being a part of our journey! With Gratitude, The Dogs For our Brave Team

Our mission is to provide professionally trained service dogs at no cost to veterans
About us
Our mission is to provide service dogs, at no cost, to veterans who have suffered catastrophic injuries. We're looking for veterans who are suffering from traumatic physical injuries, such as loss of limbs, and whose lives would be improved by the addition of a highly trained service dog. We provide professionally trained service dogs for each veteran's specific needs. No service member is ever charged. All costs, including training, food, equipment and veterinary care, are covered by the program. To apply, visit our website at www.DogsForOurBrave.com and click on the APPLY TODAY button at the top of the page. We're dedicated to making life better for our veterans, and we're proud of our mission. Our goal is to save two lives at the same time—train a rescued dog to provide assistance to a veteran in need. NO SERVICE MEMBER IS EVER CHARGED. 100% of all costs, including rescue, training, dog food and care, medications and daily care are covered by the program.

During this giving season, PFC Jacob Williams inspires us to embrace the "gifts" we are given every day. On his 20th birthday while deployed in Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom, PFC Jacob Williams, in his own words, "... was given the gift of being blown up by a bomb." A powerful and moving story of resilience, courage, and the profound bond between a veteran and his service dog. The relationship between this young Marine and his dog, Allie, is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the incredible role animals can play in healing. After such a serious head injury, it's inspiring to see how Allie’s unwavering support and companionship helped him push through physical and mental barriers, ultimately reaching the milestone of walking a mile—a moment he might have once thought impossible. The way a service dog like Allie is not only a guide for physical mobility but also a steady source of emotional support is truly remarkable. Her presence likely provides not just physical aid but also a sense of stability and comfort, reminding him he's not alone in this journey. This journey speaks volumes about the power of determination and the special bond between veterans and their service animals. It’s heartwarming to know that through grit, tenacity, and the love of a dog, recovery can be more than just physical—it can be emotional, too. 💪🐾❤️ https://lnkd.in/gcYnEfvS #mondaymotivation #woundedveteran #servicedog #dogsforourbrave #savingtwolivesatonce

Relationships built on trust. 🐾🇺🇸❤️ The bond between a service dog in training and their primary trainer is undeniably strong, as the two have spent close to 18 months working together daily. This period of intensive training and bonding ensures that the dog is not only skilled in performing necessary tasks, but also trusts and understands their trainer deeply. As the service dog nears the final stages of training—Phases IV and V—preparation for their eventual placement with a new veteran becomes a priority. It is essential that this bond, developed over such a significant amount of time, be gradually transferred to the dog’s new handler. This careful transition ensures that the dog’s attachment to their trainer is not abruptly severed, which could cause confusion or anxiety for the dog. The time spent together during this phase is crucial. It provides the trainer and the veteran with the opportunity to form a new connection, allowing the veteran to effectively learn to handle the dog by building trust, and to learn how to handle and work with the dog effectively. This approach offers a healthy learning opportunity to take on the role of the primary handler, while the trainer offers support and guidance to both the dog and the new veteran. By slowly transferring the dog’s trust and bond from trainer to veteran, we ensure that the new Veteran-Service Dog Team is set up for success. The goal is for the veteran and the dog to form a partnership built on mutual trust and respect, allowing the dog to fulfill their critical role in supporting the veteran’s daily needs. This transition is not just about teaching commands, but about fostering a deep, enduring connection that will help the veteran and service dog thrive together. #trust #bond #veteran #servicedog #servicedogtrainer #dogsforourbrave #savingstwolivesatonce
