Food safety education truly starts at home! 🏡👩🍳 Recently, Hal King, Ph.D., and I explored this topic on his podcast, "Food Safety Unwrapped." 🎙️✨Over the weekend, my granddaughter and I had fun baking unicorn cookies 🦄🍪, and I seized the opportunity to let her use my single-use gloves while we were working with food dye. It’s a great way to teach her about safe food handling practices! 💚 Thank you Steve Ardagh, Eagle Protect PBC for the gloves🧤 Matt Regusci Jonathan Needham #FoodSafety #FamilyFun #BakingWithKids #SafeFood #FamilyCooking #FoodSafetyMatters

Don't Eat POOP! A Food Safety Podcast reposted this
Today, the first known human death from the H5N1 bird flu has been reported. 🦠💔 Please read the story below to understand how we reached this point… 📖🔍 “The steps we take to mitigate these risks—rooted in science, vigilance, and common sense—are not optional. They are critical.” ~ Dr. Darin Detwiler, LP.D. As an educator, speaker, and advocate for food safety, it breaks my heart and fuels my frustration to see our advice and warnings blatantly ignored in the food service industry. For over 30 years, the statistics of illness and death have remained disturbingly unchanged. 😔💔 As an industry, we should feel deeply ashamed, and as a country, we should be humiliated. WE. MUST. DO. BETTER. 💡🚨🍽️ Matt Regusci Elena Montoya Michelle Wollenzien Jonathan Needham Justin Dwyer, MPH-EH, LEHP, REHS/RS

When Matt and I decided to start the Don't Eat POOP! A Food Safety Podcast, a lot of people were concerned about whether or not we could pull this off. People were skeptical 🤔 of how we would be able to handle talking about outbreaks, illness, and death in a respectful enough light with our irreverent personalities. Matt almost bowed out, and I wondered if I was putting my career in the dumpster fire 🔥 but we pushed through, and Don’t Eat Poop! was born. Thankfully, people like our unique sense of humor. We’re almost to episode 100 now, and over the course of 2024, our subscribers almost quadrupled 📈. What makes this possible is that even though we joke 😂 around, we don’t take any of this lightly. We actually take everything food safety very seriously. We are very passionate about what we do, and we’ve both shed tears for this business (check Episode 93 for an example of this). The fact is that if we didn’t have our unique sense of humor, we’d probably need to be heavily medicated 💊. I believe that having a unique sense of humor is key to staying sane while dealing with all the doom and gloom 😫 that we face when working with food safety. So, continue to tune into Don’t Eat Poop! this 2025 for great interviews with food safety experts, episodes that cover food safety solutions, as well as the companies out there that are making people sick 🤢 and killing ☠️ them every day, all with our trademark humor.
