Pharmacies are rapidly evolving with new services. But gaps in experience are impacting relationships with patients and providers. Here are some services being added to the usual prescription medication dispensing: Retail chains - - - > Fullstack healthcare: primary care, virtual/onsite clinics, lab testing, dental clinics, home health, home infusion, ACOs, VBC, and 340B. Regional pharmacies - - - > retail clinics, lab testing, immunizations, virtual/onsite clinic, travel clinics, specialty, health foods, 340B, and MTM. Independent pharmacies - - - > compounding, care management, cash-only (direct discount, cost-plus, & membership), telehealth, 340B, specialty, health foods, pharmacogenomics, supplements, and concierge pharmacy. Mail and online pharmacies - - - > specialty, direct-to-consumer, virtual care, B2B pharmacy, and branded OTCs. These offerings help improve margins, meet customer needs, and enhance lifetime value. Not addressing existing systems and workflow gaps leads to negative patient experiences and strains providers' staffing resources now dedicated to checking fill status, out-of-stock, and transfers. Pharmacies should seek to understand where customers are today and use that to preempt design, conformance, and communication gaps that lead to service failures. #pharmacies #prescription #futureofhealthcare
