Meet Tonya Hamilton, the Cabinet Executive Officer (CEO) and Tribal Liaison of the Governor's Office of Youth, Faith and Family (GOYFF). With over 30 years working for the State of Arizona and its citizens, Ms. Hamilton worked for the Pima County Juvenile Court Center, the Arizona Supreme Court, and the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry. CEO Hamilton has worked for the last 17 years in various roles at the GOYFF, such as Deputy Director, Substance Abuse Prevention Manager, and Project Director for several grant awards. She currently serves as an ex officio member of the Arizona Commission of African American Affairs, co-chair of the Community and Social Organizations Committee of the Arizona-Mexico Commission, a member of the Governor’s's Council to Combat Human Trafficking in Arizona, the Arizona Substance Abuse Partnership, the Governor's Council on Child Safety and Family Empowerment. She has participated on the Governor's Veterans Policy Academy Team. Ms. Hamiliton was recently inducted as a 2024-2026 Luke Air Force Base Honorary Commander. A native Phoenician, Hamilton is a proud mother of two adult children, a volunteer with Maryvale High School, and a member of the Arizona West Valley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. #pospow2024 #iampospow #womenleaders

Nominations have been reviewed. I have sent appreciative emails to those who took the time to nominate the phenomenal women in their lives (I am eternally grateful for this), and these women were acknowledged, too. What a process of appreciation! This is the 15th year for the Positively Powerful Education Summit and Woman Awards Conference. I've just finished the press release. Here is a paragraph from it that explains why, in these many years, I continue to labor over every piece of this program. "I am committed to bringing attention to the brilliant, hard-working, culturally diverse, and critically important women who exist everywhere. We are role models, yet many of us are not recognized and should be. As a transformational training designer and coach, that spark fueled my engine to create the Positively Powerful Education Summit and Award Conferences...I am on a mission to provide an authentic experience of what is possible when we are with like-minded individuals of all genders and collaborate in unity. My goal is that, as a result, new opportunities and understandings exist for everyone." This goal has been magically achieved each year, and my program has received its own award, the International Silver Stevie Award for Best Program For Women.

This is a new area of Local First Arizona, one that I, as president of the new nonprofit "Positively Powerful Business and Community Development Corporation", appreciate. Thank you, Kuniklo Corporation's Patti Tellez Olds and Wendy Taylor, CCA, MCA, for a magnificent time last night at the 2024 Annual Scholarships & Awards Ceremony Honoring Leaders of Phoenix's Transportation Industry, the WTS Advancing Women. It was a Mardi Gras-themed celebration! Congratulations to Tempe Mayor Corey Woods, who received the Rosa Parks Leadership Award; Jack Sellers, the Honorable Ray LaHood Award; the City of Phx Aviation Dept. Sky Harbor Int. Airport, the Employer of the Year; and Dana Paschke, the Woman of the Year. Mayor Kate Gallego and Governor Katie Hobbs were part of the event. It was a time when I learned about this vital area of our state and, by extension, our world. As my friend, the Positively Powerful Leader Patti Olds, a previous Rosa Parks award recipient, said to me as I was leaving, "Now you know about my industry..." Wow! Did I ever! I met new friends and appreciated this annual event dedicated to the equity and education of women in the transportation industry.
